Capped salaries of £350k.
That's just made hundreds of firms leave the UK,.

Will the last person left please turn out the lights......

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. It highlights something really quite troubling: people are so much more driven by their own biases than they are by the truth that the truth has lost all meaning. The OP has totally misunderstood the policy despite it being quite clearly articulated in the article he's linked and others of a similar political persuasion have not only failed to correct him but have piled on. I'm not sure how this thread got several posts in before I corrected such a clear and obvious misunderstanding by the OP. It can only be because the misrepresentation better fitted with what they feel to be right and so it didn't matter that it wasn't true.

It's the same pattern every time and I'm sick of seeing it everywhere.

Instead of starting with a relatively open mind and trying to take on board as much available information as possible in order to at least attempt to form an informed opinion, they begin with an opinion then grasp at absolutely any old crap that might just stand up.

Priorities are completely the wrong way about and there really is no hope.

I've had it with members of my own family, friends, idiots in the pub; all quoting some sh!t they've read on Facebook that have long been discussed and dismissed elsewhere over the past 3 years.

No effort whatsoever. Just spiel and stupidity.

That’s quite sad and just confirms the cult-esque nature of all this. (I think this is the first thread I’ve ever downvoted anyone incidentally- there’s no place for outright lying).

Why will capping public sector executives' pay at £350k a year lead to loads of private companies leaving the UK?

Aren't a lot of the big BBC stars essentially tied to various (private)production companies rather than the Beeb itself?

Yes I believe so but Lineker was paid almost 2 million by the BBC last year. What he earns elsewhere for private companies then thats not an issue.

Agree entirely. And the worse culprits are those who bang on about democracy, but they’re the ones actually killing democracy by willingly spreading falsehoods that dictate other people’s voting patterns. You can’t have a functioning democracy based on propaganda. The inevitable conclusion of Bannon/Trump style post-truth politics.

I’m surprised how quickly things have changed under Johnson, but I suppose I shouldn’t be. I was hoping people were less gullible, had some common sense and more of a critical eye. That’ll learn me!

The Sun ran a story last month, from their Chief Political Correspondent, with the headline "Brussels: UK’s 600,000 benefit tourists is no problem"

They later issued the following retraction, buried deep in the small print. “There is no evidence of 600,000 ‘benefit tourists’ in the UK. Neither has the European Commission said this would be no problem.”

How many millions of impressionable idiots had their prejudices reinforced by that original article?

The media in this country are a disgrace, almost without exception.

Phew, Len Mccluskey will be pleased as he still has plenty of head room for his salary and pension contributions. Assuming of course that a Union falls under the banner of 'public sector".

Corrections should have the same prominence as the original wrong article, that’d make them think twice (maybe).

Totally irrelevant, Labour are as far from power as they ever have been, five more years of chaotic tories and universal credit pushing people in to desperate situations, yep JC supporters take a bow.

The lack of a strong Labour Party doesn’t mean people have to vote for the Tories you know. That’s like saying oh boy I really didn’t want to put this firework in my anus but there was nobody there to stop me so....

I do understand the article.
The interview on Today and the piece I've linked show that Labour are determined to punish success.

What is wrong with being super successful? We should encourage that. We want wealth creators, people like Peter Jones who enthuse and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders.

JM and JC are old fashioned socialists. There is so much evidence both historical and current which shows their model does not work.
I've just finished a rather lengthy audiobook by the Great Courses - Capitalism v Socialism. I'd recommend anyone who support socialism listens to it. It's academic so not written by a journo or bias.
It's clear that Socialism doesn't work.

A few have stated that my views ignore fact and are just 'Dunkirk Spirit'.....thanks for the latter, I am determined old sock.

I don't ignore fact, I take it in. I've given a text where bucket loads of fact shows that JC and JM are wrong.

I'm not all for the big hungry corporate best, not at all. I'm a social entrepreneur and I also work for a charity!

I'm also not rabid or unreasonable, just want to make a clear stand for common sense and just how dangerous JC is.

Hammas and the IRA are two red flags!

Peace, love, and strong tea.

I see you're now ranting incoherently rather than holding your hands up to spreading false information. The term 'wealth creator' is a load of nonsense as well by the way, they aren't creating wealth, they are hoarding it at the expense of others. You not only buy propaganda it seems you also spread it. Shame on you.

If this is just for the public sector which we essentially pay for via taxes then its actually the first sensible proposal to come out of the Labour camp.

I presume this would catch Gary Lineker and all the fat salaries paid for at the BBC also?

I struggle to see the justification for a salary >£300k to run a public organisation.

Alan Shearer earns £400k for being a pundit. I find that staggering.

This shows you believe an economics professor to speak factually, economics is not a science and as someone who claims to have a masters from a business school you should know the biases that exist.

Many public organisations have budgets in the billions and employ thousands of people. That justifies a fairly hefty salary. I do find it odd that people who think that private sector directors should be able to earn whatever they like with no restriction but public sector chiefs should earn significantly less for running comparable sized organisations and usually organisations that are much more important in most people's everyday lives. How do you square that circle?

Many CEOs who take home such massive pay packets and bonuses are actually doing quite badly at running their own businesses, which is bad for the market. Martin Sorrell was pocketing ever-larger paycheques at a time when WPP were performing at their worst, for example. John Varley is another. Surely it's better that the money goes back into the business and true 'wealth-generation' than his pockets. What use is it there?
