Who should I vote for? 13:57 - May 7 with 24513 views | SpruceMoose | Got a notification through in the post yesterday that I'll be receiving a European election postal vote in the next week or so. I genuinely have no idea who I will vote for at this point. Members of TWTD here's your chance to gain an extra vote for your party of choice. Convince me. Who are you voting for and why!?

Who should I vote for? on 14:58 - May 7 by SpruceMoose | I suppose one way of reading the graph in your linked Tweet is that Labour could possibly be streets ahead in the polls... if they backed a second ref. |
I don't know. I'd guess that Corbyn is too toxic to many middle of the roaders and he's burnt his bridges, even if they changed their policy now? I'm also not entirely convinced that the EU election voting intention mirrors people's position on our EU membership. Apparently, Remain is polling well ahead of Leave now in the 'should we be in the EU question', yet that YouGov EU election poll has at least 63% of people indicating parties in favour of Brexit. Tribalism is well and truly alive. If Labour could retain that 22% and then win back people who've gone across to the other pro-Remin parties then maybe they could be ahead. It's Nige's show anyway. He's won already with a clear simple message about betrayal. He doesn't even need any policies.

Not logical from the point of view of wanting Brexit to happen - these elections and Brexit party MEPs will have no influence on that. But logical in terms of being consistent with you views. I totally understand that, and fully expect Farage's lot to be our main representation in the EU parliament.

On that basis I dread to think how she'll interpret a surge of votes for the Brexit party; she might just revoke Article 50. |
It takes a brave person to guess what's going on in her warped mind.

What would you say to someone who was concerned that the Brexit party is full of people of dubious moral character, who often are found to hold extremist and racist views? That's a big concern of mine. I wouldn't be interested in any answers relying on whataboutery either. [Post edited 7 May 2019 15:27]

That's the best way to describe it - "an indicator of your view". Not a mandate for a party to carry out that view. It's surprising how many don't seem to realise this.

That's a decent assessment as any. I have no idea what Labour feel like they are offering to people. Anyone planning on voting that way and would like to chip in?

I can respect that. I think we would all agree that for too long the political choices on offer in the UK have tended to be far narrower than the spectrum of views held by the public. More representation can never be a bad thing, even if one personally disagrees with the party in question.

Who should I vote for? on 16:16 - May 7 with 2826 views | vilanovablue | I'll be voting for the Lib Dems but living in Eastbourne this is more from a tactical perspective. We need to vote to ensure Farage and his goons are not left securing 30% of the vote and claiming a ridiculous "moral" victory. If they do they will, this is a party that isn't going to say what it's policies are aside from leaving the EU on WTO rules before the election. For this reason alone they shouldn't get any votes but I fear they will have the largest share of the votes...

Who should I vote for? on 14:23 - May 7 by SpruceMoose | I have never voted Conservative. My worldview is really not a Conservative one, and as I have said further I am up the thread I am naturally more inclined to align with a Leftist view of the world. However, maybe I am overlooking why, in this particular election, I should consider voting in other ways. Voting Brexit and UKIP are out, if I'm being honest, as I'm not a massive racist and I would like the UK to Remain within the EU. I'd listen to input from any other sensible, thoughtful posters though. Anyone voting for UKIP/Brexit would probably just call me a yank and tell me I have no business voting anyway. Maybe GB can offer some insight into what the Conservatives may offer (unless he's voting in a different manner, I don't know). [Post edited 7 May 2019 14:26]

The main question for you I suppose is are you pro EU or Pro Brexit? if you are pro brexit, imo you can only vote for the brexit party, who i don't believe are a racist party, as they are the only party that seem hell bent on getting the country out of the EU. if you are pro EU then as you said it is a toss up between Lib Dems and Green's. Labour are in a right pickle and i'm not 100% sure where they truly stand on several topics due to MP's continually stating different party lines. The Lib Dems are for me a bit to easily swayed with what is popular at that point in time. I like the Greens from an Eco standpoint, I think that it would be good to have them more involved on a national level and will definitely help the hypocritical EU to have some actual Eco warriors batting for the environment.

Brexit party will poll the largest share of the votes as they will capture the Brexit vote from both Labour and Conservative parties. The remain vote will be more split but can't see many Tories voting for a socialist green party but you never know. At the weekend someone explained to me that they had voted for Lib Dems in the local elections as neither Labour nor Conservartive parties would deliver the Brexit he wanted. He was quite surprised when I told him that Lib Dems were the only major party in England that, at the last election, were pro-remain.

From an EU perspective the Lib Dems have been unwavering in their position since the start, so far from easily swayed by what's popular.

Who should I vote for? on 14:37 - May 7 by homer_123 | I would struggle to suggest voting for the Conservatives. In fact, how anyone can vote for them given: 1. The fact Cameron tried to solve an internal party issues with a referendum 2. Then walked and washed his hands of it after assuming no one would vote for leaving the EU 3. How the current PM has handled the situation 4. How the party has failed, utterly, to get anything remotely sensible in the way of an internal or cross party agreement in place re. leaving. 5. Or having the balls to step back say....whoops, we may have erred here and need to re-think Couple that with the general way in which they have been running things over the last few years, the increase between the haves and have note, drop in social mobility etc. They should be in power and no one should be voting for them in the short to medium term. Saying that, I'd struggle to also suggest voting Labour, who are also an utter mess for a range of other reasons. The logical choice is indeed the Green party - is that a wasted vote at MEP level though? I've not really looked. |
If Sprucey is voting in the East of England constituency, the Greens were the strongest pro-remain party in the region in the last European elections in 2014.
