Leeds have only got the usual away allocation for the final game.... on 11:20 - Apr 10 with 2113 viewsmaccyd9

Total balls up by the club/police. No two ways about it.

10k will be down minimum, there isn't a hotel available in Ipswich and most gone in Colchester.

Hundreds are staying in Yarmouth and many more in Clacton, Colchester, Cambridge etc.

2000 in the ground, at least another 8k in the town during the game.

Should have given them the entire cobbold at least and even let them over flow into the South Upper.

What happens when the Town fans try to head back to say Degero's or somewhere for a usual post match beer and it's been taken over by Leeds fans?

One things for sure, will be eventful!

Without a doubt we should be cashing in,but are we all sure that Leeds won't be showing the game on a screen at Elland Road though? Maybe that's why we're only giving the usual allocation?

Though I know a lot will just want to say they were here...

From a thread on waccoe,
For those old enough to remember. In 89-90 when the fixtures weee announced the authorities were concerned about the final game Bournemouth v Leeds on a bank holiday weekend. The club contacted the FL and Bournemouth to ask about reversing the fixtures, to play the game at Bournemouth in November 89 and the final game at Elland Road in May. Bournemouth objected.
As we all know, we ended up last game needing to win to get promotion, thousands of Leeds fans chasing tickets with a small allocation at a tiny ground. Depending on which reports you believe, 12,000-15,000 Leeds fans turned up at Bournemouth of which only 2,000 had tickets. It was carnage outside, Bournemouth fans and players getting attacked as Leeds fans desperately wanted to get in. Riot police, Alsatians, police on horseback, it was a ridiculous situation to be in as Leeds fans just wanted to be there when there club got promoted.
All of this at Ipswich will be repeated. A ground that holds 27,000 is allowing just 2,000 Leeds when we can clearly see 1000’s want to travel. Where is the common sense policing we expect in 2019? If there is trouble the media bandwagon will have a field day blaming Leeds but Ipswich and Suffolk Police will be to blame for this. If we need to go there wanting a draw, or win to get promoted we could easily have 10,000, and possibly more wanting to be there.

I agree, except if there's trouble then Leeds fans will be to blame.

The situation might not be to your liking, but it's well known so kicking off will be a choice. The fact that Leeds fans are carrying on with this weird undercurrent of threat is probably why you find yourselves in this mess.

If it was up to me we'd rinse you for every penny and just lock you in after until the crowds clear, walk you back to the station and make life easy for everyone. Seems a better compromise.

I don't disagree with the general point (you should have a bigger allocation) but this bit is more LFC than LUFC -

"If there is trouble the media bandwagon will have a field day blaming Leeds but Ipswich and Suffolk Police will be to blame for this."

Obviously anybody causing trouble is to blame but Suffolk Police and ITFC would arguably be contributors to it.

It's a ridiculous decision on every level and I expect it reflects the poor relationship between the club and the police force.

The only scenario where they might get away with it is if Sheff Utd are already promoted with Norwich and Leeds have nothing to play for. That's looking very unlikely.

Looking at the comments, I don't think Leeds fans would be kicking off it were not for the ticket issue.
Yes, we have the usual ratio of pissed up fans who sometime makes fools of themselves, but there has been very little truble at many games this year. It's not like the 80/90s any more.
The problem will be desperate (pissed up) fans wanting to see the game. I'm a bit older, but our youngest is 21, so has never seen Leeds in the Prem, so he has already said it will be the game of his lifetime for him.
Make no mistake, there will be thousands of ticketless fans there as others have said.
We were talking about this on the way to the Preston game yesterday, and we hope that that the plan is for an area to be reserved, and the cops stick us in there to avoid having to watch them around town or the ground.

Do what you’d all normally do. Wait for a load of police to turn up then get brave by doing some pavement dancing behind them.

Make sure you watch football factory the night before too.

I think creating some sort of Leeds fanzone, assuming the game will be live on TV, would make sense. Only halves of shandy to be served, mind!

They will be showing it on a big screen, but Leeds would still have sold 10000 tickets for this game, as well as selling out the beam-back.

Flipping eck leeds had a sold out away end of 5,500 at preston on a tuesday night, plus loads of fans in other sections of deepdale.
Think we might be underestimating how many will travel if they need anything at portman road.
Massive massive cock up by the powers that be not giving them half of our ground.

The depth of naivety on here is staggering. I was in Bournemouth that weekend and the only reason 'trouble'at the ground is mentioned is that it was filmed and there were reporters there.

Elsewhere it was mayhem as they were stopped from getting into town centre pubs so many just wandered about 'pizzed' attacking anything they came across. The idea that by putting most in the ground will stop that behaviour is beyond laughable.

With such low numbers of tickets it is far easier for the police to stop coaches and check for tickets. Encouraging more away fans will not diminish the problems the night before - and that whole w/e. Neither will it be an easier problem to deal with pitch invasions during and after the game by having an extra 5000 in the ground.

And the idea that selling tickets on the day is a good idea is beyond absurd. You would have umpteen away fans able to roam free among the stands with no accountability via ticket ID. many will not even be football fans and will be here only as it's a 'day out'. And with ticket sales it would make it impossible for the police to check who had a ticket and who was simply there for trouble.

I suspect many on here have not seen real trouble and imagine that by allowing as many pizzed up idiots into the town as possible it will all pass peacefully ! ! !

So you stop the coaches and check for tickets... what then?

What do you do with those on the coach who don’t have tickets?

And then there’s thousands travelling by car / train...
