Blimey, what a ridiculous thing to say, imagine if you replaced the word white with black.

It's just a throwaway line designed to get a pat on the back from Guardian readers.

It's not offensive, just a bit desperate. He must show he is ashamed of being a straight white man because apparently you can't believe in equality unless you make a big deal of it and make sure the world knows.

This is the best interpretation of what he said so far.*

I can't see anything racist in what he said at all. What he did which was out of order is imply that Leave voters are largely inherently racist.

Like you say, it will appeal to the woke in society.

I doubt whether he needed prompting, he's got to where he has by knowing what the right thing to say is, all by himself. His job is safe for the time being.

* Edit: a nod to Sparks for pointing out the reality too.

Racism against white people isn't a thing.

Racism exists for everyone.

He should have gone to last week's march. There were far more white people there.

on account of there being far more people there in general?

So you're saying white people are already protected by them then?

It was central London and he's saying it's full of white people, isn't he just making a pro-Brexit statement with that? You should be chuffed surely?

No, what I’m saying is that I think this is the most racist thing ever said by a news tv presenter on British television. If he’d have used the word ‘black’ instead of ‘white’, then he would have been sacked immediately. The equality act is equality for all, not just minority groups.

If he'd have used the word black he'd have needed his eyes tested.

I don't see what the point is whether the poster would or wouldn't be outraged.

The fact is it was a stupid thing to say but more important is why he said it.

He's a mouthpiece for the pro remain establishment. He gets lots of brownie points for labelling leave supporters with an unwarranted blanket accusation.
