The UK fiserment overfished the seas in the 50's & 60's which brought about a ban on herring fishing.
So muc fish was caught in the 60's it couldn't be sold so the fish buyers, to protect prices had it dumped into fishmeal plants the end result was we had chicken/ eggs/ pork which tasted of fish.

For the punter fish at the fishmonger just go more & more expensive

It is a long and sorry story of greed & incompetence
