To be fair, he was a bit dodgy. Much more consistent now (and taller apparently).

I can't let that last comment pass. You may not know, but during the ill-feted Keane/Jewell years Town were at there most effective as a team when ALB was in goal. In the 38 games in which ALB played in goal for us, we averaged 1.53 points per game which, had they been over the course of a single season, would have seen us challenging for the play offs. This at a time when we were otherwise struggling against relegation. That PPG was also considerably more than we managed with other much more celebrated keepers in goal. For instance with Begovic it was only 1.33 PPG.

Well. Yeah.

Even though we only managed 1.33 PPG in the six games he played, it was clear at the time and his career since has confirmed that he was a vert good 'keeper.

Fairly meaningless statistic without the context of the team around him, opposition etc.

It was obvious for all to see that ALB wasn't up to this standard, and the fact he's never played a professional game of football since leaving us is pretty telling.

Meanwhile Begovic has played 100+ premier league matches, internationals and is now at the best team in the country. To talk about them in the same breath just serves to illustrate what a meaningless stat it is.

ALB was playing in the same team and behind the same defence as Stockdale, Fulop, Begovic, McCarthy et al. In the same league.

This is what I object to "It was obvious for all to see that ALB wasn't up to this standard", it wasn't obvious at all. Sure, he wasn't the best keeper we have had, but he did OK for us and was no worse than most of the others that played around that time.

He was a notably lesser goalkeeper than all of those you mention. His distribution was terrible and he had no command go his defence whatsoever. Was never convincing on crosses, very slow off his line. His CV reflects that.

He wasn't in the same league as those other 4 keepers you mentioned. It's like comparing Moore and Murphy.

Maybe, we all have our view from the stands. But from a purely team performance point of view, Town did better when he was in goal than any of the others at the same time.

Clive Baker though, now he was a 'keeper.

Brighton seem a bit light on 'keepers at the moment. They let Stockdale go and currently only have this lad, whose career seems to have gone a bit downhill since leaving Bruges, and a Finnish international who has been with them for two years and only made 1 league appearance.

By downhill I mean that he played a significant number of games in the top Belgian League, before moving to Valencia, where he only played a handful of games before being loaned out to a second tier Belgian team. Though he may be well regarded and could have a good future, over the last couple of years his career has gone downhill.

Pickford is well over-rated - I just don't see him being this 15 year starter.

Ryan has always looked ok to me, but nothing special
