Right to criticise Cook tonight

Yep!

It staggers me that Cook doesn't see it. And while we're waiting for him to catch on we're losing ground.

It's fair to say the players need some time but you have to look at what Cook is doing to build this team. He's chopping and changing the front players. He doesn't seem to realise that he's playing 442 not 4231 and perhaps most baffling is he's played Chaplin, Barry and Pigott as second strikers before picking a proper ACM in Fraser.

A midfield three of Evans, Harper and Fraser is clearly key to this team yet Cook has given them no time to gel.

Yes time to gel but Cook is prolonging that process with straight up poor decisions.

I think 'worth a punt' is an understatement! We'd be very very lucky to get him.

I suspect he's long been top of our CB list and we're just hoping he doesn't get a good championship offer. Brum have made a move though and we need to move quickly now so it seems increasingly unlikely. Presumably Mariapppa is next on the list.

Yes, I'm sure we'll have 4 players to cover the 2 CM roles. I personally think Cook is the ideal manager for Nolan so expect him to do ok. So one more is definitely needed and I wouldn't be surprised if we look to an experienced, durable campaigner who can come into the team at short notice and deliver 7 out of 10 performances. If you look through the free agents of that type/calibre one name stands out - Leadbitter!
Probably wouldn't come though and there's plenty of other old-timers who could make up the 4th CM spot. No rush.

Phil, regarding the wages...
at 14:09 16 May 2021

On an independent website that explains SCMP it states:

'However the Football League use a broader definition of Turnover. Crucially, the FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity.'

And

'In League 1 and League 2, a wealthy owner can therefore fund the club spending in a way that is not permitted in other divisions'

Agreed - he ran the game. We really should have gone 3 in midfield to shut him down.

few thoughts on the game
at 11:56 15 Sep 2019

In my view, Jackson and Norwood came up against a good defence yesterday. Maybe even championship quality in the boy Anderson. It was a reminder that they are both very much league 1 level and how important Keane could be against the best defences.

That said, PL had to change to 3 in midfield yesterday. Found it a little bizarre he stuck with 442 when their deep number 8 was pulling all the strings.

Looked a good prospect at CB.

Thought he marshalled Jackson and Norwood very well yesterday. Worth keeping an eye on.

So team for Saturday...

Skuse for Huws: I agree Huws is class but right now he has to wait for his chance. Neither Skuse or Downes deserve to be dropped.

Georgiou for Judge: He is a proper left winger. Judge is a makeshift winger. Also sounds like we've been very lucky to get Georgiou - I think he needs to play.

I'm with you on Edwards over Rowe. Edward's get goals and assists, Rowe, for all his qualities, doesn't.

Its a shame Nydam got injured as I think he would have taken that LB slot. Hes a much better footballer than Kenlock.

I think the choice is Judge or Jackson.
Rowe will play on the right wing.

For those that are optimistic about the upcoming season

Downes Huws

Edwards Judge Sears

Norwood

If PL can get these on the pitch and passing the ball around we will score alot more goals than we have over the last 5 years. Should be fun to watch.

We’re interested in Tom Elliott (striker) from Millwall....
at 22:49 28 Jul 2019

I agree about Keane. I enjoyed watching him play but doesnt look like PL wants to take the risk. Fair enough.

We've clearly got room for a physical target man like Elliot though. He'd be a great partner for Jackson so together they'd offer a handy plan B.

Huws is a superb player.

Physically dominant, carries the ball well, passes well, tackles well, heads it well and scores goals.

When fit he bosses championship games let alone League 1.

Skuse (or Downes), Huws and Judge is a top half championship midfield on paper.

Fingers crossed we get to see it.

He's no.5 in this clip. Scores two, makes a decent pass and stands on the ball!

Looks big and left footed - maybe about as good as we'll get in the bargain bucket.

Rowe is looking good but not that good!

Judge at 10 with Edwards one side, Sears the other and Norwood up top is our strongest attacking line up.

I suspect Rowe is going to get his chance though - up to him to take it.

Re: Dozzell
at 09:38 23 Jul 2019

He provides a real dilema.
His speed of thought and passing is of international standard.
However, his defensive work is of amateur standard.
If his defensive work improves (and he has beefed up) then weve got a superstar on our hands. If it doesnt then I fear his career will drift.

If he is seriously contemplating a move to a prem club, I worry he is underestimating the work he has to. Because of injuries he will probably start the season for us so he should be getting his head down, working on his defending and nail his spot down.

After a couple of weeks he'll have Huws and Nolan breathing down his neck. Both have a more complete set of skills so it should be a brilliant challenge for Dozzell.
If hes not motivated by the competition then that raises a whole lot of other questions about him.

So if we go 4-4-2 at Burton. Who starts CM?
at 11:58 20 Jul 2019

Certainly think Downes will run Skuse hard this season.
Depends which Skuse turns up. If its the PL version that wants the ball off the back 4 then he probably still gets the nod.
Downes will get plenty of games regardless though.
