Coach Welcome Saturday?
at 12:08 29 Apr 2024

I hadn’t thought about it like that, it was more that Leeds fans leaving the game early on Friday night has shown their players and manager that they’re only really with them when they’re winning. Our team should know that our support doesn’t depend on the outcome of the next two games. They’ve earned our support for as long as they represent our club.

I’m not a “happy clapper” and I still can’t believe that the embarrassment of a team and useless manager were given a standing ovation by thousands at the end of the spineless relegation season.

If we lost tomorrow night I’d say yes. This squad, manager and coaching staff need to know we’re proud of them and what they’ve done regardless of how this season finishes. It won’t be needed, we’re not losing tomorrow.

If the subs board goes up on 83 minutes on Saturday showing 1 to replace 31

I think Kieran is saving that one for the 25/26 Champions League final when we’re 4-0 up against Bayern.

We’ll know we’ve done it.

One of my many great memories from the Exeter game was giving Walton a standing ovation (his role in our promotion last season is under-rated) as he was taken off and welcoming Hladky on - for what I wrongly thought was a farewell appearance!

Anyone else feeling a little bit deflated this morning?
at 09:49 23 Apr 2024

I’m deflated by the negative, downbeat response on here to a team chasing promotion winning a game that they were odds on to win. It might even be a blessing - the apprehension, nervousness and tension at the last home games was the result of other results going for us before we played. My hope is that Leeds winning takes some of the pressure off. We’ve got no right to be where we are, we need to realise that and enjoy the next 12 days or month.

I’d rather we missed out than be involved in something like that. I’m pretty sure it resulted in a rule change that meant all final group games kick off at the same time now.

Have a look at Germany v Austria at the 1982 World Cup to see how its done.

We may not get another chance like this for years and years
at 19:33 13 Apr 2024

The last few games have highlighted just how strong and competitive this league is. It has underlined what an incredible job the manager, staff and squad have done to be in this position but equally has shown how many decent teams aren’t going to be in or near the top six this season .

In the late 90’s when the disappointment of missing out via the play offs faded, we pretty much knew we’d be challenging for promotion again the following season. It’s not like that now.

5 points will be enough.

Can anyoine explain the substitutions?
at 18:23 13 Apr 2024

Were you at the game or watching a stream/listening ? They were both finished, they’d run themselves into the ground and had no more to give.

I’m surprised you thought Boro were poor. They are the most in form team in the division, have a very good coach and some excellent players. I thought they were one of the better teams we’ve played at home this season.

Never bought into the “go down and rebuild” theory but I was wrong
at 14:10 10 Apr 2024

It did. We were slowly wilting and dying as a club. I can see now that it had to get worse before it got better. For the first time I can see some positives in us going through those rotten years. Port Vale at the end of last season was a tough game but the players can draw on that experience tonight.

Momentum from last season, on and off the pitch , has been a big part of why we’re in the position we are. Crucially the players and manager know that this team thrive under end of season pressure because they experienced it last season and did the job when there was no margin for error.

I wouldn’t have trusted many of the teams we have had in the past, including the great ones, to get the result we need tonight and for the rest of the season. I trust this group though. It doesn’t mean we’ll definitely get the points we need to go up but there is no way that if we don’t it will be because of “bottle”.

A very good point! Easy for us older fans to forget that those of you under 30 haven’t ever seen us in the top division.

I’m asking because there are plenty of downsides to promotion (losing more than we win, leaving behind the most enjoyable league there is, even less 3pm Saturday kick offs, VAR, some players who have done so much for the club leaving etc).

For me it’s simply that feeling of jubilation if we achieve it. The atmosphere during and after the Exeter game last season was special. A repeat would be incredible.

Ipswich have given us many great performances this season
at 10:27 8 Apr 2024

I disagree that “man for man we are a better team”.

Man for man they have higher quality/more expensive players in most positions but as a team they’re not a patch on us. If McKenna had their squad they’d be up by now. Our strength is as a team and a club built on all the coaching, hard work, togetherness and positivity that’s been created. They are an underperforming group of players who very often this season have been less than the sum of their parts.

First time in 2 odd years - embarrassed of us today
at 14:57 6 Apr 2024

I’m not trying to be a hero. It’s an honest comment. Getting beaten 9-1 on aggregate by them when they went up was embarrassing, 1-7 to Peterborough was embarrassing, the pitiful way we were relegated was too. Today was just an off day. Really disappointing, I was expecting better but it happens.

I know you’re a real supporter who like me has followed the club for decades. Apologies if my reply was unfair, or an unnecessary dig. It wasn’t really aimed at you, I’m just frustrated how one poor result has changed the mood. We’ve got two massive home games this week. The team needs the supporters to stick with them. Keep the faith!

The only thing I’m embarrassed about are the negative comments from some of our supporters. I’m proud of this team and our club for the first time in a long while. One narrow defeat doesn’t change that for me.
