Simpson Huddersfield Deal Closer
Monday, 22nd Aug 2022 10:33

Striker Tyreece Simpson’s move to Huddersfield Town is getting closer to completion.

Reports over the weekend indicated that the clubs have agreed a fee, however, TWTD understands the deal is not yet done but is getting closer with personal terms under discussion.

Earlier this month, we reported that the 20-year-old was set to join the Terriers with discussions between the clubs having been ongoing for some weeks.

Towards the end of last season, Simpson, who scored 11 goals during a successful loan spell at Swindon in the first half of 2021/22, told the Blues he wanted to move on this summer having turned down the offer of a new contract in January.

In May, Town took up a one-year option on his previous deal in order to secure a fee which was likely to be higher than the training compensation they would otherwise have received.

Luton, Peterborough, Middlesbrough and Barnsley all showed interest during the close season and Town turned down a number of offers for the academy product with clubs not matching their asking price which was understood to be £600,000.

Simpson made two senior starts and five sub appearances for the Blues without scoring. This season the frontman hasn't featured for Town at any level.

John-Jules is showing him what could have been had he been a little more patient.

Looks like the budget for the new number 9 we know is coming just got £600k bigger.

I think JJ is the classier player, who fits our style better than Tyreece.

I hope this works out for him as, having watched him at Swindon a few times with my other half, he always put in a good shift. We may never know the full detail of what went wrong here (be this agents or whatever) but let us all wish him the best for the future and look forward not back.

That our asking price was £600,000 doesn't necessarily mean that's what we've ultimately got for him. I suspect it's a little lower, but not sure of the detail.

Oh dear. One more to join thousands who've gone along the same road to nowhere having believed their own hype.

All the best to TS but John-Jules is miles ahead of him imo. I would trade them in a heartbeat.

Remember that lad that similarly disappeared to Celtic?

He disappeared so hard I can't even remember his name!

I expect we will sell him for far below £600k, but with a big sell-on clause in case he is a success.

I've never seen him play (well apart from his goals for Swindon).

Will be interesting to see how his career progresses. It's all too easy to blame this situation on a young player being too greedy and believing that he's better than what he is etc. Other young players have left - some fail some succeed.

I wish him well.

Anything around £500k is a lot of money for someone so unproven, and selling as a L1 club. The main thing is we have a nice sell on so we can participate in any upside if he goes on to do good things at Hudersfield and they sell him for a lot of money, as we did with Downes.

Well done to Ashton and co for getting a fee, when you think about it it's a lot of money in the context of L1. It's more than Wes Burns or Christian Walton cost us which is ridiculous really. And half as much as we got for Dozzell who was far more proven.

Well hope he enjoys playing in lge2 again, as apparently they're gonna loan him out to a lge2 team as soon as he signs. Hope he succeeds but suspect he'll never actually play a game for huddersfield and disappear into oblivion like so many that decide the grass is greener elsewhere. Unless huddersfield get relegated to lge1, then may get a chance with them. Good luck to him tho.

Might not be the best of moves for him,the way the season is shaping up,Huddersfield may well find themselves in league 1,with the Town hopefully taking their place.

You can't compare him to Tyreece John Jules it's like comparing a race horse to a cart horse.

Just get it done. The saga has been going on too long. Hopefully the fee plus sell on will recoup the cost of his development.

Someone mentioned Kundai Benyu who went to Celtic -
Currently plying his trade for IBV in the mighty Icelandic league!

It's all a very strange set of circumstances ; with a super coach/ Manager here and improvements happening and standards being set and demanded ,just maybe this young man couldn't wait to get ahead of himself !
ITFC quite obviously decided he was to command a fee to leave ,and rightly so : nevertheless it would be excellent if one of our own did prove himself and thrive in the game .

I am not comfortable with the number of promising youngsters leaving to play for clubs higher up the pyramid. Liam Gibbs is now starting for Norwich in the championship after we pretty much gave him away, not to mention Downes now at West Ham and Dozzel at QPR. Not good business on our part and seems to be part of the ongoing problem that Kieran Dyer resigned over, that there is no way for our best youngsters to progress into the first team. Hopefully KM is addressing this.
I think the full damage done by the 'demolition man' is still to be realised.
As for Simpson, I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion on how good he is. Will be gutted if he ends up scoring goals in the championship.

Good. We don't need any disruptive characters around the place at the moment. Another young player with too high of an opinion of himself who is destined for obscurity.
