Simpson Huddersfield Deal Closer
Monday, 22nd Aug 2022 10:33

Striker Tyreece Simpson’s move to Huddersfield Town is getting closer to completion.

Reports over the weekend indicated that the clubs have agreed a fee, however, TWTD understands the deal is not yet done but is getting closer with personal terms under discussion.

Earlier this month, we reported that the 20-year-old was set to join the Terriers with discussions between the clubs having been ongoing for some weeks.

Towards the end of last season, Simpson, who scored 11 goals during a successful loan spell at Swindon in the first half of 2021/22, told the Blues he wanted to move on this summer having turned down the offer of a new contract in January.

In May, Town took up a one-year option on his previous deal in order to secure a fee which was likely to be higher than the training compensation they would otherwise have received.

Luton, Peterborough, Middlesbrough and Barnsley all showed interest during the close season and Town turned down a number of offers for the academy product with clubs not matching their asking price which was understood to be £600,000.

Simpson made two senior starts and five sub appearances for the Blues without scoring. This season the frontman hasn't featured for Town at any level.

The lad clearly has an aggressive agent and I am pleased with the approach taken by Mark Ashton and Co. We have spent far too long letting players go on the cheap and this chap was happy to sign a long term contract with us and must be accepting of the clubs position. Good luck TS but remember that agents do not always conduct their business in the complete interest of the player. Again I totally trust the team under MA's guidance to do the right deals for this club.

What I would like to know is why he wants to move??
He must be decent if a string of clubs some that are championship level want him and ate prepared to pay over half a mill

I still think this is far less about Simpson & far more to do with our club's new off field management setting out their stall to future players & rival clubs who might think they can move/poach our young players for a fraction of what the are worth, or nothing.
It is clear to all now, that Ipswich Town FC will offer decent contracts to its players, & reward those who perform well with new improved contracts; but will expect its players to honour the contracts they have & is prepared to allow somebody, who tries to force the club into letting him move for less than what the club values him at, train with the u23 for as long as is deemed necessary.
Simpson won't be our problem for much longer & the chances of a similar situation arising in the short term have reduced significantly.

churchmans - I saw him play for Swindon and he was ok. Bit of a brute, not that fast, hustled and bustled with a bit of outcome. John Jules is by far a more complete striker and sounds to have a much better attitude. Simpson conveys a very poor mindset from what we're reading, although we never get the full picture .

Sounds like another sad case of an agent trying to make some commission.

McKenna knows how to manage young players better than any of us, so if he's happy to get rid then that's good enough for me.

Bluefox. We didn't give gibbs away. We weren't in a position to be able to keep him. We offered him a deal, but he decided he wanted to leave. Bcse of the rules regarding academy players, there was nothing we could do. So all we could get for him was compensation which, at i believe £500k, was actually around the most we could have got for him.

I'm afraid that this is one of the consequences of being in the Division that we are; talented youngsters will be easy picking for Prem/ Championship clubs. The solution is for us to be promoted!

It would also help if youngsters could see young players coming through to the first team, something that KMc may well address.

EADT is reporting the fee is understood to be £500,000 with add-ons, and a healthy sell-on clause, likely to increase it into 7 figures. Now down to personal terms.

As no one knows the details behind all this, it does seem strange that he is being demonised by so many. The full story may come out in the future but, for whatever reason, he doesn't want to be here, so it seems in everybody's interests that he leaves. Simples!

It's crazy all of the hate on here. To put a bit of perspective on it he turned up off his own back and played with my nephews under 9 team in stowupland a few weeks ago because he knows a Dad. My Brother in law said what a lovely bloke he was and spent hours with the kids playing and hung around afterwards for photos etc. He's decided he needs to go somewhere else in his career and that really doesn't make him a prima Donna.
Good luck TS, there's always 2 sides to a story.

Some of you guys need to give him a break. As Keiron Dyer said he is just a young kid needing to see a pathway, especially at the time he made his decision Bonne was on loan and Jackson and Norwood were out of contract.

I hope that he goes on and enjoys a good career, but sadly for him he was never going to fit into McKenna's style of playing. Pastures new for him and money in the Bank for is the best outcome allround.

A very protracted saga hopefully coming to an end soon.

It's best for all parties as for whatever reason (which we don't know all the ins and outs of) he doesn't want to be at Town anymore.

I wish him the best of luck except when we play the Terriers in the Championship next season.

I believe this is down to pathways to the first team. At this present time no youngsters are getting a chance. Dyer eluded to it as did Gibbs before moving on to Norwich. You have to show the youngsters there is a route through but at the moment there definitely isn't. My example is Ndaba being loaned out again rather than getting opportunities with us and we bring in a 35 year old. We must show these young players we want them at out club.

Bluefox: I think you'll find the damage wax find by nigh on 20 yrs of under investment, mostly under Evans reign.

Many young players have left this club for so called bigger clubs, never to be seen or heard of again.
Under the current, new regime, I'd suggest if players leave it'll be because they are seen as not good enough.

Bluefox Downes didn't even get on the pitch and Dozzell was a sub and all he got was a yellow card.

stickymockwell. Calling it hate is a bit strong ain't it? We have a young player who has learnt his craft here, with years of effort and expense invested in his future. He then decides he can do better for himself elsewhere, so fans being a bit peeved with his (or more likely his agents) attitude is fair comment. Nobody hates the lad, good luck to him.

Best let him go, besides, I don't reckon he'll be up or ready for the championship next season!

Did we ever get to the bottom of the Dyer departure, the long interview on here wasn't definitive on why he left, he just mentioned serious issues he didn't agree with. And we also lost the very successful Adem Atay, were they connected? Albeit he went to Aston Villa but wouldn't we want to try to hang on to someone of that calibre? And add Terry Butcher to that list too.

Spot on Len my thoughts entirely. This club is finally being run the way it should be and we must accept every decision made by the management .We will never know the full story behind this saga so best it's been dealt with and the door finally closed.

Terryf: your view ( insight) is welcome , thank you. BUT, Simpson was ( is) under contract to Ipswich Town. So he should not be surprised that the club didn't like his agent trying to ( reportedly) broker a deal for him at Swindon, whilst he was on loan to them. Fine, if he doesn't want to stay with Town, but don't expect the club to sit back so let him walk away for nothing when WE have invested a LOT of money and coaching to get him to his current level.

As you say, two sides to the argument….

Very much agree UptheTown….it is very much about the pathway and less to do with money…Dyer was absolutely clear on this…the evidence is there with Gibbs…no clear pathway no definitive commitment…I really hope that the club are managing this clearly with the younger players managing expectations…the evidence of Ndaba etc going on loan in recentl months suggests that the club does have a plan and some of the younger players are buying into it. I really hope that Simpson is the exception…that the club have learnt something from the episode and the likes of Gibbs doesn't happen again…or as much as can be done is done

ArnieM It's a fair amount of money and it hasn't really affected us that badly. More important than the money on this one transaction, it shows that we won't be messed about with. He's wasted half a season to a whole season on this, so he's the biggest loser.

Upthetown Ndaba was already 4th in line before we signed keogh. And we were always gonna sign him regardless as mckenna, wanted an experienced cb. Woolfenden has made it through, humphries is around the 1st team scene, tho a loan would be best for him too. As for ndaba, now 5th in line, a season with another lge1 club hopefully actually playing at cb will hopefully see him ready for the 1st team next season. He played most of his games at Salford last season at lb. Mckenna wants him to play regularly at cb thus this loan. Dont see how you think young players aren't getting a chance? Ivercthr last few years, other than woolfie, we've had Downes, Dozzell, Baggott around on the fringes, ndaba now, the same, and humphries. That's 6 players in the past few years. And thats a good number. Very few clubs have that many come through in that space of time. And of those downes and woolfie both had loans and that vastly improved them as players. Pretty certain, come next season, we'll see the likes of ndaba and Baggott really challenging for 1st team spots, all being well.
