Morris Suffers Second ACL Injury
Monday, 10th Aug 2020 14:25

TWTD understands Town striker Ben Morris has suffered an ACL injury in training, only eight months after returning to action following a similar injury.

The 21-year-old had been one of the young players tipped to make an impression on the first team in the season ahead but now potentially faces missing the entire 2020/21 campaign.

The news is a huge blow to the Colchester-born academy product, who was sidelined with his previous ACL injury, also sustained in training in January 2019.

Morris, who along with fellow young strikers Aaron Drinan and Ben Folami has been training with the first team, eventually returned to action with the U23s in December last year but wasn’t involved with the first team before the season was curtailed due to the coronavirus.

Confirming the injury, physio Matt Byard told the club site: “Ben has sadly re-torn his cruciate ligament.

“He is seeing a specialist next week and we will take it from there but obviously it will mean an extensive recovery period.”"

Prior to his injury, Morris, who is contracted to the Blues until next summer with the club having an option for a further season, had made one senior start and four sub appearances without scoring.

The England U17, U18 and U19 international has also spent spells on loan at Woking and Forest Green Rovers.

Something must be wrong with the training at playford rd. Are these lads being pushed into senior football too early before their bodies have developed enough. Let's hope he can come back (not rushed) and be stronger.

Kid suffers career changing injury which could have a massive impact on his life and a supposed fan writes 'Get rid' and then is shocked and confused that normal humans downvote him.

...and pencilpete ...if you're going to slag off a player that's left the Club, at least get your facts right about why they left.

@pencilpete - if you just think for a moment on the effect your unnecessarily callous words could have on a young lad, one of our own players, who is striving for a career in professional football and who may well read this, your brain might begin to understand the downvotes.

Hang on in there pencilpete.

Disagree with your 1st post but you're entitled to your opinion.

People, if you disagree, down arrow.

No need for the comments directed in a personal way.

It's hot, have a beer and give the man a break yeah?

And good luck Ben.

I'm sure this club, no matter it's faults, will look after you and ensure a speedy recovery.

I wish the lad well and hope he fully recovers.

From a club perspective I do wonder what we do in training that results in so many serious injuries. It happens time and time again.

Having had my ACL ruptured and had reconstructive surgery it can be done, but it is a long road to recovery even with ITFC behind him. Best wishes that it all comes right in the end.

Wish you all the best Ben to have this dreadful injury once is bad enough, but to do the same one again is soul destroying just keep your chin up (easy to say i know) and be positive for the future, i would have in light of this happening again so soon if we have not been rushing him back to fitness to soo or if it's frustration on his part, either way it's a crying shame for a young lad with so much potential.

Mattinlondon - are you saying the likes of Bishop and Dozzell haven't spent a ridiculous amount of time in the treatment room then ??

Since his debut season we haven't had 20 games out of Bishop in a single season yet, hes 24 and we are still waiting for him to 'come Good' - I'm literally sick to the back teeth of all these so called wonder kids that are constantly injured and even on the rare occasion when they actually are fit our manager doesnt have the b0llocks to play them anyway, he would rather fill the team with 34 year old has been like Danny Graham and Stephen Ward

So you can call me what you like there is no room for sentiment, players have zero loyalty to clubs anymore so why should it be any different the other way around, I can guarantee you if he was offered a bigger paycheck somewhere else we wouldn't see him for dust.

Terry Nutkins .... yes a supposed fan and season ticket holder of 32 years.

Arnie M - I dont recall slagging anyone off but if you're referring to me saying about Adeyemi the FACTS I have based my comments on are 5 Appearances in 2 years - please enlighten me if he was playing in games and I didn't notice him, I must admit sometimes I dont realise Jon Nolan is playing sometimes.

Anyone else want to take a pop ?? Bring it I'm not apologising for saying the club should get rid of a player who will have been injured for 2 and a half years

@pencilpete

I don't think anyone has labelled Ben Morris a ‘wonderkid'. Well apart from your empty headed imagination that is. Anyway, there's this thing called common decency - you don't say get rid to someone who has just suffered a serious injury - let alone a second one when recovering from the previous one.

I do happen to agree with you that sentiment should not get in the way of what is best for the club but the club has a duty of care to its players and so we can't simply get rid. If we did, no player would come to the club.

I don't care how many years you've been a season ticket holder for - the fact is you've come across as a complete and utter bell end.

So disappointed for the lad. However, you've done it before, you can do this again Ben! You've got this.

Mattinlondon - I'm not sure how you can give a lecture on common decency in one breath and then throw childish insults out in the next.
When I say 'get rid' I'm not suggesting we rip the mans contract up and let him hobble to the dole queue, we should get him fit and then release him when his contract is up - what I'm saying is dont waste anymore time on these players that promise alot but cant actually spend more than 5 minutes actually on a football pitch ... you know what he is actually here for ... without getting injured and missing a year at a time.

I suppose you'd still be trying to get the best out of Michael Chopra because he 'has issues' and its 'the right thing to do' ??

How incredibly unfair. I can't imagine how he must be feeling.

Something is seriously wrong with the training at the club, amongst many other things. How many serious injuries have there been in the last 2 or 3 seasons? There should be an internal enquiry ASAP.

real shame, at his level he showed he has got a lot of promise, and was looking forward to him stepping up. He would have being hopeful of getting into the first team soon, this will be a huge disappointment to him, Hope this is not going to be his weakness and that he makes a full recovery and can fulfil his potential .

Point of order PencilPete - Dozzell has only suffered the one serious injury for us, which he recovered from nearly 2 years ago. Whether he should have played more over the last 2 seasons is a matter for debate, but it hasn't been injuries that have limited his game time since October 2018.

Sadly I must agree with pencilpete-------unless the insurance pays can we afford to keep him on board?

Massive shame - i liked him on the few times he's played and i'm sure he would have had an opportunity this season - This is likley to be the end for him at Ipswich

Keep battling and working, Ben. Here in Sweden we have a player who has had two ACL-operations, one operation on fractured kneecap and a fractured foot in four years and at 23 he is now back playing in the Allsvenskan (the top division in Sweden). It's a lot of work, but it is possible to do it.

BlueSwede Perhaps we should send Ben to Sweden he might get some decent treatment.
