Town's Attempts to Add Go Into Final Hours
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 18:24

Town’s attempts to make further additions to the squad are set to stretch into the final hours of the transfer window with a striker remaining manager Mick McCarthy’s main target. The window closes at 11pm this evening.

As previously reported, bids have been made for targets and owner Marcus Evans is involved in ongoing negotiations regarding what we understand would be permanent moves.

Despite the limited time in which deals can be done - EFL clubs are no longer able to sign players on emergency loans outside transfer windows - Evans won't pay above and beyond the Blues' valuation of a player just to get someone signed before the deadline.

In addition to a frontman to replace Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle at the weekend, the Blues are also believed to be keen on adding another wideman.

Burnley’s Michael Kightly now looks less likely to be that player, despite the Clarets being close to adding Polish winger Kamil Grosicki from French club Rennes.

Earlier today the Blues added Jonny Williams for his fourth loan spell from Crystal Palace for the season.

Yesterday, trialist striker Leon Best - who played for the U21s in today's 2-1 friendly defeat to Southend at Playford Road - signed a one-year deal with an option for a further campaign, while Leicester's Tom Lawrence signed on a season-long loan.

Don't need a winger and can live without a striker unless top quality (I.e. Not Lafferty!) Get a decent attacking right back so we can play 433 or 451 and let's use the strengths our new and existing players have. Or get Lee Gregory in. No panic and don't waste the money...

Pogba's just been released he could be a decent signing! Obviously I'm not talking about the £89 million one. I mean his brother Mathias from Partick Thistle.

Look guys, how much money do ubthink we've actually got left to spend from the Murphy money?. We got £3m. We've already signed Best, Lawrence and Williams who with agents fees loan fees and signing on fees will have used up a fair bit of that already. And that's why M.E will not pay above the odds for a player tonight. And remember, it's M.M who tells Evans what he wants to pay for a player in the 1st place

Get our goals from midfield instead (plus the strikers we do currently have).

For those who keep mentioning Victor Anichibe just remember that his injury record makes McGoldrick look like a 46 games a season man.

Adomah to Villa? I'd love to have seen us splash the Murphy cash on him. No target man but a great attacking threat.

Mark.

You think our squad is weaker with Stewart, Murphy and Malackzy as you call him going? Replaced by Best Williams and Lawrence. If you think that's weakened our squad I think you need help. Agreed another Striker would be great, but as we currently only play 1 up front. We now have Pit man, Sears, Best and Mcgoldrick. Fingers crossed for a strike but agree we shouldn't be held to ransome because of Murphy money.

Yes, as Murphy was a key player which is why Newcastle paid £3M for him.

I am pleased about all three new signings, but I will still be concerned if we don't replace Murphy. Hopefully we will any moment?!

Can not recall the last time we did anything this late in the day if we still have another player to come in..!! makes a change to have a interest in deadline day..overall....

Happy with Williams as a season long loan and "at present " is better than are other creative options..yes a loan but if for the duration.!

Best..not a great scoring record to be honest , but a decent squad player and hey who knows may hit a purple patch with a new club.

Lawrence..can,t comment as no little about him so lets wait on him.

Last but not least i really hope we invest the money from Murphy on a perm quality signing..if we now get told we spent it on the loans will not be overly impressed as shows little ambition from ME ,

IF WE REALLY WANT TO PROGRESS..!!!..??
