Town's Attempts to Add Go Into Final Hours
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 18:24

Town’s attempts to make further additions to the squad are set to stretch into the final hours of the transfer window with a striker remaining manager Mick McCarthy’s main target. The window closes at 11pm this evening.

As previously reported, bids have been made for targets and owner Marcus Evans is involved in ongoing negotiations regarding what we understand would be permanent moves.

Despite the limited time in which deals can be done - EFL clubs are no longer able to sign players on emergency loans outside transfer windows - Evans won't pay above and beyond the Blues' valuation of a player just to get someone signed before the deadline.

In addition to a frontman to replace Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle at the weekend, the Blues are also believed to be keen on adding another wideman.

Burnley’s Michael Kightly now looks less likely to be that player, despite the Clarets being close to adding Polish winger Kamil Grosicki from French club Rennes.

Earlier today the Blues added Jonny Williams for his fourth loan spell from Crystal Palace for the season.

Yesterday, trialist striker Leon Best - who played for the U21s in today's 2-1 friendly defeat to Southend at Playford Road - signed a one-year deal with an option for a further campaign, while Leicester's Tom Lawrence signed on a season-long loan.

Nobody is coming here. They never had any intention of spending any of the Murphy money.
Pulled the wool over our eyes AGAIN.
Best and the loan signings wages simply replace what we paid Murph,Malarcyk and Stewart.
All we'll get is we have a bigger squad, we wouldnt pay over the odds blah blah blah.
Fed up of crooked liars running my club

Looking like that's it. No striker as clubs ramping prices up and ME won't be held to ransome.

Stuart Watson the EADT guy has said no more signings now. Offered 1 mill plus for a striker but could not agree a fee.

Stuart Watson has confirmed (on Twitter) that it looks like that's all we're going to get in terms of transfers for this window, but Itfc "intend to spend in January".

Not that I am unhappy with the three signings, I have a good feeling about Lawrence surely we can't have hired a third dud ex Manchester Utd player. All three players have a lot to prove, joniesta in terms of fitness but hope fully this will take some pressure off of Bish and allow us to use him more sparingly.

Have to say I was always expecting our efforts today to find a Murphy replacement to fall short, think we were more window shopping and looking for a bargain which was never going to happen. Not convinced Brett Pitman is going to stand up as a target man, and we have good choices to play 4 5 1 if either Best or Pitt can adapt to that role.

...... you'll all be disappointed in the morning - you should know the Owner and Manager - along with their traits by now.

FREEBIES and LOANS. HOOF and DEFEND. Like it or not - TRUTH. Therefore get used to it - or speak with the feet, just like several already have.

I just signed. I found my old Adidas Beckenbaurs and gave them a call. I'm in the team for the Reading match.

I hope that the Williams deal doesn't cost a place in team for Bishop an Dozzell.

I see a few anti Marcus Evens comments on the board and I wonder if a business man who is absolutely legal is the preferred owner rather than an Asian or Arab human rights abuser with obscene wealth.

That is it. No replacement for Murphy,[ Best was meant to be an addition as i understood it . The'' will spend in January'' dosnt cut it .So its the usual underwhelming deals we have become used to .Hope Best produces the goods, and proves me wrong, but i fear we are going to be missing Murphy very quickly .
