Mings Cherries Move Odds Slashed
Wednesday, 24th Jun 2015 18:42

Premier League new boys AFC Bournemouth have emerged as surprise contenders for the signature of Blues left-back Tyrone Mings with the odds on him joining the Cherries having been slashed to 1/6 by bookmaker Skybet this afternoon.

Mings has been watched by most of the Premier League over the last year or so with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked.

Crystal Palace had a £3.5 million offer turned down last summer, while Newcastle were reported to have made an enquiry last week when they were said to have been quoted an initial fee of £8 million for the 22-year-old, rising to £10 million once further clauses were taken into account.

Bournemouth have previously been tipped to sign Everton left-back Luke Garbutt with a loan move reported to have been close earlier in the week.

Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, while Mings is contracted to Town until the summer of 2017.

Town's spending power will again be limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules this summer with MD Ian Milne recently confirming that the Blues' close season recruitment would once more largely consist of Bosman free transfers and loans.

However, selling a player such as Mings for a big fee would give McCarthy greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

Meanwhile, we understand the Blues are close to confirming the addition of Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles on a season-long loan.

News that the Blues are targeting the highly-rated 17-year-old first broke last week.

closer to the Arsenal kid loan and with plenty of u blooded youth ready in the wings.
One or two new midfield faces is all we urgently need now unless players depart.
Rest assured Mick is quietly going about his work. He is a very impressive manager in terms of return on investment and results. Fact, and that is what we need in this day and age, unless the academy start churning them out.

If we do get the sort of money that rumoured I'd take it,as long as its invested in playing staff. We have parr to slot in at LB and I believe at this moment in time he's the better all round player, with pleanty left in him. Get a proper solid RB, a couple of creative midfield types, possibly a GK. I don't believe we'll loose Murphy and if the front three can all keep fit we are looking pretty good.

However, compared to that 1/6, the odds of him staying at Town are a massive 3/1 on. I'd say even the bookies consider that to be by far the most likely scenario.

Guthrum - no it's not 3/1 ON to stay at Town, it's 3/1. 1/6 is far more likely.

I think if it isn't Bournemouth it will be another club.

I agree with a lot of comment's on here where Mick won't see a penny of it if he goes, I don't believe a word of Milne, we heard all this last year when we sold Cresswell and I'm still waiting for that investment in the squad!

Mick can't keep performing miracles, the club has to show it's ambition otherwise all the hard work of last year will be lost.

Out of him, Bishop, Berra, Murphy & McGoldrick, Mings is the one I could stomach selling as long as we get at least £6m & Mick can then reinvest in BOTH wages & fees.
We have a ready made replacement in Jonny Parr & then Mick could go about the business of filling the gaps in our squad, notably pace, power & creativity in midfield, a right back & further cover up front.
Will be interesting but hopefully it will be concluded quickly

I cant see it. Are Bournemouth really about to chuck 8 million at Mings? I think they have more to worry about, experience is what they need there right now.

Id take 8 million. I rate Mings but he remains a prospect at this stage and 8 million for him is a lot but i do not believe the cherries will pay it.

Goodbye Mings, and all the best for the future. 1/6 on....surely done deal!
Money needs to be reinvested on players, that's for sure! If not, well it could be a case of ground hog day!!!!!

Mings is unrealized potential. Nothing more. We as a Club need to get as much for him as we can when we do sell. Only fans have emotion in what essentially is a multi million £ business - and nothing more these days.

Wouldn't bother me if he went far to sloppy still have flashbacks to that disastrous pass that ended our playoff hopes at carrot Rd.

eh ?

The bookies only reflect what is bet. They do not set odds on what they think, otherwise they would be bust the next day.

There is a reason why they are called a bookmaker ... and if they did in the case 'know something' why the hell would they still be taking money ?

Remember the odds tumbling as Redknapp was about to join us ? Who 'knew something' then ?

Only a few weeks ago we were told money would be available for signings as season tickets are on sale , now we cannot sign due to spending power of FFP, heard it all last year and the year before . Do you think Derby , QPR and previously West Ham , Leicester , Bournemouth have hid behind the FFP rubbish ? We will sell Mings and Murphy will go as he has already stated he wants the club to show ambition the same thing that annoyed Dids when he was promised investment which never arrived in January . Players and fans will only believe and hope for so long

If Bournemouth are willing to pay 8 million up front then it is an absolute no brainer to accept the bid. Parr is a ready made replacement and truth be told better than Mings anyway. Mings does have potential, buy that is all it is at this stage. That sort of money, if put back into the playing budget, certainly the majority of it could fund a promotion winning team.

Absolutely no chance of Ainsley Maitland-Niles coming on loan, Wenger wouldn't let one of his players go to a Hoof team.

Am i the only one on here that doesn't rate this lad much at all !! To me he struts around as if he doesn't give a t-ss about this football club , both on and off the pitch !! He seems extremely arrogant and up himself !!!! If someone else wants to pay stupid money for him them let him go , and consider it business well done (from a 10 grand initial fee) !! No great loss as johnny parr is far better anyway IMO

Well I'd get a laugh out of it! My brother is a Bournemouth season ticket holder and bangs on about how he doesn't see what the fuss is about because "whenever I've seen him I haven't rated him at all."

Woukd love to hear him say "thank you for letting us have Mings "

Lets not forget this is the same firm that had harry redknapp at 1/10 before betting was suspended on becoming the new Ipswich boss, look how that ended.

Mings had an outstanding rookie season and will only be better for it. It's best for all concerned that he stays.

You don't want to see Mings fulfil his potential in another team's shirt.

As for investment, the midfield's sorted (Bishop and Skuse). I don't see anyone we could realistically get that's an improvement, and Hyam and Bru are more than adequate backup. Benyu might even break through this year.

We need a rightback imo, Rosenoir's without a club - although I'm sure Mick and Terry have players in mind surely.

We need wingers as well but Stewart might be better with a full pre-season under his belt, Henshall was spoke of in glowing terms and there's the Irish kids.

Or we might just play 433 every game next season and not need wingers at all.

Conclusion: Keep Mings he's the most exciting talent to emerge since Wickham. And money doesn't guarantee anything, Mings is guaranteed to have his opposite number in his pocket at a rate of 37+/40.

maybe on here, but outside of this. Lower league thug was the rather harsh view of someone a few months back. He has an appalling disciplinary record and often looks lost during games.

What we have is nothing more puff put out by his agent, and swallowed by some of the gullible. The idea that he would fetch £8m is frankly absurd.

Oh dear. Looks like we will be looking to bring in 13 new players and not 12 (we had a really small squad anyway prior to losing so many).

A new left back will cost us a fair mint....
