Taylor's Contract Terminated
Friday, 6th Mar 2015 15:18

Striker Paul Taylor’s Town contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Manager Mick McCarthy confirmed: “Paul Taylor’s not our player. He’s not been back with us and he’s not my player.”

The 27-year-old, who has been training with Blackburn for the last month, is understood to still be registered to the Blues and will stay officially a Town player until the emergency loan deadline on March 26th in order to allow the former Peterborough man to join another club on loan.

The Liverpudlian, who was on loan at Rotherham earlier in the season, would be unable to sign for another club on a permanent basis if his registration was released now as that would contravene the FIFA rule preventing players from being with more than two clubs in a season.

However, with the Blues still holding his registration Taylor is able to join another club on loan.

Earlier in the week Rovers boss Gary Bowyer said he is yet to make a decision on whether to loan the striker: “He’s training with us, it’s an opportunity for us just to have a quick look for him and we’ll take it from there,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“The lad has got some ability, there’s no doubt about that. You only need to look at his CV to see that he has had a decent career, people have seen the talent he has, but we’re just monitoring the situation.”

Taylor, who didn’t return to Town after ending his loan spell with the Millers in January, was understood to be the club’s highest-earning player on around £10,000 a week and was out of contract at the end of the season.

The Liverpudlian joined the Blues from Posh in the summer of 2012 for an initial fee of £1.5 million, which could ultimately have risen to £2.5 million.

He made only nine starts and 16 sub appearances for Town, scoring one goal, and missed almost a year of football due to a toe injury.

Perhaps all the critics of MM should take a good look at the Taylor saga Micks paying the price of the inept transfer dealings of Keane Jewell and to some extent Magilton we should be great full for what hes done with nothing.

Shame we have so many vindictive supporters - without anyone knowing the details, truth, what went on between Manager and Player etc; etc;

Another indication of how our Club has changed over the years - shame that too.

What I know, is the Player has talent, flair and creativity in natural form - what I don't know is the Players personality and attitude.

Therefore I will not pre- judge like some are all too ready to do - shame on some of you for the words you have used - maybe / maybe not unnecessarily !!!!!

I wish him well - even if he justifiably wasn't for us - for whatever reason.

Only the deluded would say we wouldn't have benefited from his potential ability.

Obviously something has gone on, Mick's short sharp reaction when the boy is mentioned, tells us that. Without trying to brush all under the carpet, I sincerely hope he sorts himself out, not just as a professional footballer, but as a human being.....without doubt he has lost his way, and at present not prepared to heed warnings.

Just done a quick calculation and worked out that we've blown nearly £3m on Taylor (based on a 3 year contract, wages + fee). Is this the last of the big legacy spends from the pre-McCarthy era? Let's hope so.

Ironically a lot of our peers have progressed based on sound scouting and recruitment so that they only get quality in. Yes, even Brentford, who we face tomorrow. But I remain optimistic. We've got some great talent coming through the academy and in our history we've never got anywhere by splurging lots of money on players. Perhaps a return to our roots is our best bet?

@blueboy1981 - He may have pace and some flair, but his creativity and end product was seriously lacking, with a goal return per appearance no better than Conor Sammon and worse than Tamas Priskin. Potential is all very well, but he didn't do much to realise it at Ipswich.

So that's £1.5M down the drain basically (maybe more) - disastrous business. My god we've gone from spending silly to not spending in a couple of seasons!

Now we have an owner who doesn't seem to want to gamble any more on getting to the 'big time' since his time here as owner, makes you wonder what the future holds.

Shame we never signed lee tomline from posh boro took the punt on him and its paid off big time goals from midfield ... Errr yer think that's what we needed.and guess what he can take a set piece ie free kick corner something we sadly lacking in all areas. Why do professional players find it so hard to put a decent corner or free kick in with all the bloomin training they do ... The mind boggles!!!

We have no idea what has happened here guys.

We do know we have lost a lot of money here though. I hope we do have the wages to bring in someone new now.

what a disastrous signing. perhaps we can now understand why ME is so cautious with his money when he sees how we got through £2M + for practically no return.

Thus tw@t didn't make it at Rotherham or anywhere else he has been farmed off to - so I struggle to understand some of our so called supporters saying we would benefit from his skill or so called flair etc (blue boy) - he sounds like poison - and I for one don't care what he ends up doing. Let's all get off of our high horse and stop preaching thus evangelistic b s - good riddance to one of the biggest c@cks we have signed in recent memory

Another load of money Marcus Evans had to shell out to buy his contract ????
Makes you wonder with the money he has shelled out for contracts, including Failed Managers, we could have bought a creative midfielder with it, ?? still life goes on !!

Not Taylor made for us.. Good luck I say, as he may need it

Mick is a fool if it was his footballing ability alone stopping him playing.

You sense it was not just that however.

Bit like Civelli, £1.5 million, instantly injured for a year and never given a chance on his return.

Heap big shame.

Civelli is 28 a free agent and a left sided mid field player.

Hang on a minute. There's a lot of hindisght here.

Before he got injured he looked genuinely useful. At the time he was a sensible bit of business, as he was what we needed. A permanent signing, a rarity when he arrived, and an attacking player who could run at people.

What we didn't need however was an injury and near year long absence. That contributed to Jewell going, and something about Taylor appeared to change.

Whatever his relationship with MM, the fact remains he struggled at Rotherham, a club who would have known about any personal issues before they hired him. Whereas before he joined us he was a key player for Peterborough when they were in the Championship he could not do it again elsewhere..
