Veseli Deal Confirmed
Friday, 19th Jul 2013 14:28

Town have confirmed that former Manchester United man Frederic Veseli has signed a two-year deal with an option for a further season following his trial. Yesterday, TWTD revealed that 20-year-old was set to undergo a medical and was closing in on a move to the Blues having been released by the Premier League champions at the end of last season.

Veseli, who plays at right-back, centre-half and in midfield, joined up with the Town squad at their training camp in Ireland where he impressed manager Mick McCarthy.

After briefly being sidelined by a hamstring injury, he was back with the squad again at the weekend and played for 45 minutes at right-back in Tuesday’s friendly at Gillingham.

McCarthy told the club site that Veseli turned down other clubs to sign for the Blues: “Freddy has done very well in his time here. He had other options but we are delighted he has agreed to join us.”

A Swiss international at U15, U16, U17 and U18 levels, Veseli joined the Red Devils from rivals Manchester City in January 2012.

He was previously a youth player with hometown club FC Renens and FC Lausanne-Sport. He is yet to make a senior appearance for any of his clubs.

Have a really good feeling about this signing. I was worried it might fall through like so many did in the past. Looks as if we are building for the future as well as for next season. Welcome to Town, Freddy! I just wonder if we will be able to keep everyone happy: there are only eleven first team spots, and we seem to be developing options for most positions (obviously a sound strategy from the manager's point of view). But if anyone can get a squad to gel, then I believe it is MM and TC. COYB!

Great news. Think he will probably be our new right-back. By all accounts he has pace, is strong and likes to get forward. As Stearman is set to stay at Wolves, for me we now only need cover at CB - or a new player to go straight into the team ...

Seems like a no nonsense defender from that video, the rest of them looked woeful no wonder there was so many clips of his defending from the same few games

Michtheitfcman.... agree with your comments about the video and only appearing to hoof the ball, however i am not going to judge anyone on a youtube video again, i did that last time with JET and thought we had got a wonder signing, gonna wait this time to see the guy in a blue shirt...coyb

h32,That's the first positive text you've posted for a long time, let's look at the whole picture though, since the arrival of MM and TC,the club has been on the up from week one.Top manager and a well organized back-room has enabled the club to attract decent players.ME deserves some credit for the appointment of MM.Its not all about spending big money at this level.Managers make teams not players. In MM we have a no-nonsense, player motivator. That's why JET,Martin etc have thankfully departed our club. The club is on the up,no doubt about that, hope your happy to see all this positivity going on at Portman Rd.

Just goes to show how the quality and value of a squad can be increased without initial outlay on transfer fees.

The Youtube clip showed Veseli to be quite confident in the tackle and passing of the ball with his left foot so he could probably be used at left back if needed.

Stearman not called up for the ROI squad and remaining in League 1 will not help his ambition to play international football. I would still love to see Stearman signed up and I really hope that we have some money to spend to get him this summer.

What's this? We show interest in a player who is being looked at by other clubs, we talk to him and he signs for us weeks before the transfer window closes and without going into a long saga? I can't remember the last time I saw this at ITFC! Great work Mick and everyone else involved!

Squad size is building up- good cover. Confident MM/TC can keep morale up/united including among those not (regularly) in first 11. With that in mind everyone at club must be thinking of a top 6/promotion push this season- many on TWTD certainly are! COYB.

This follows a long line of truly successful signings of ManUre rejects : Clegg ; Simpson ; Martin ; Brown. My expectations are low.

I have had a look at Paddt39's Youtube link on the first page, plus a couple of others, and am hugely impressed. His anticipation of danger and his positioning are both outstanding, and his distribution is safe and simple.

Some of the clips showed him covering at Centre Back, and he could cover there comfortably if, for example, Cresswell bombs forward, allowing Tommy Smith to move over to Left Back while Aaron gets back into position of the attack breaks down.

Captaining his country to victory in an age group World Cup will hugely have impressed Mick, who captained his country to a World Cup Quarter Final as a defender. This could be a truly inspired signing.
