Veseli Deal Confirmed
Friday, 19th Jul 2013 14:28

Town have confirmed that former Manchester United man Frederic Veseli has signed a two-year deal with an option for a further season following his trial. Yesterday, TWTD revealed that 20-year-old was set to undergo a medical and was closing in on a move to the Blues having been released by the Premier League champions at the end of last season.

Veseli, who plays at right-back, centre-half and in midfield, joined up with the Town squad at their training camp in Ireland where he impressed manager Mick McCarthy.

After briefly being sidelined by a hamstring injury, he was back with the squad again at the weekend and played for 45 minutes at right-back in Tuesday’s friendly at Gillingham.

McCarthy told the club site that Veseli turned down other clubs to sign for the Blues: “Freddy has done very well in his time here. He had other options but we are delighted he has agreed to join us.”

A Swiss international at U15, U16, U17 and U18 levels, Veseli joined the Red Devils from rivals Manchester City in January 2012.

He was previously a youth player with hometown club FC Renens and FC Lausanne-Sport. He is yet to make a senior appearance for any of his clubs.

@kingy4978

That's fine by me mate. Think both Hewitt and Cresswell have the potential to play higher up the pitch.

We're not even in the panicky final stages of the transfer window and we have a whole carload of players signed up with little fuss and drama. What a pleasant change... IMWT!!!

Veseli to start at Reading if I was picking the side. Still think there is going to be more signings to come plus can see a couple going out ie Chopra and possibly Smith or Cresswell.

Is that an Easy Rider t-shirt he's wearing ? If he's a fan of the film that's a bit leftfield for a footballer. Hello, Fredo, you dude.

Guys, have a look on Town's official web site and see what Veseli said about coming to the club. If true, a brilliant start for this young man at ITFC and thanks Man Utd. This is truly indicative of how MM is going to run our team, a truly professional bloke. COYB

Floridaboy - What on earth are you talking about? We cannot afford to lose any of those we want to keep, we need them all.

Both the Manchester clubs may regret letting him go

The whole signing comes across as positive and for all the right reasons for all concerned. Wonder if the Man Utd guys told him... go learn your trade at a good team and success/money will follow later, if so it shows the lad has football as his motivation not money, which is a great thing in this day and age. I'm getting very much a 'Mauricio Tarrico' Vibe about this signing. Unknown full back, comes to Town bit out of nowhere, ends up becoming a legend. Like I say, just feels a bit like that to me, hope I'm right! Gonna be a good season I can feel it! COYB!!!!

Very pleased about this signing. Whilst he'll have to prove himself, he is already endearing himself to the Town fans with the comments he's made. I think we're only a couple of new players off having an extremely competitive squad. I just hope we're able to grind out a few points at what looks a tough start to the fixture list early in the season.

Interesting blog on Freddy from the Man Utd perspective as well:
