JET Linked With Swap Deal for Bristol City Winger
Friday, 28th Jun 2013 14:18

Town have been linked with a swap deal which would see Bristol City’s Paul Anderson join the Blues with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas moving in the opposite direction. Emmanuel-Thomas, 22, was told he could find another club at the end of the season despite having another year remaining on his contract.

According to Bristol-based sources, talks between the clubs have already taken place.

Winger Anderson, 24, started his career as a youth player with West Brom, before moving on to Hull City and then Liverpool in November 2005.

Anderson spent time on loan at Swansea and Nottingham Forest — when he was linked with a move to the Blues - while with the Reds, before making the switch to the City Ground permanent in the summer of 2009 for £250,000.

The 5ft 9in tall former England U19 international moved on to Bristol City last summer, signing a two-year deal. He made 19 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Robins during their 2012/13 relegation campaign, scoring three goals.

Emmanuel-Thomas, who played for Bristol City boss Sean O’Driscoll during a loan spell at his former club Doncaster Rovers, is understood to have been interesting Fulham, who watched him on a number of occasions last season.

The former Arsenal man's wages could potentially prove to be a sticking point with the midfielder or striker believed to be amongst the Blues' higher paid players and the Robins likely to be looking to reduce costs after their drop into League One.

Thought Anderson was highly effective in his first season at Forest, but then lost his way - possibly due to an injury?

Anderson's a very good player when fully fit and on form but tends to be injured a lot. Obviously JET will be on big wages which need removing so this deal would make sense but i'd prefer a cheeky move for Adomah instead (unrealistic i know)

Instantly thought it was gonna be Albert Adomah

A interesting proposal. However, at 22 years of age, I can't help but feel that if Adomah stays at Bristol City, the two of them could become the next Zaha/Bolasie.

Never heard of him haha, but received some good responses from Ipswich and Bristol City fans so could be exciting, got to be better than Lee Martin surely?

Always looked a game changer before he had an injury, hopefully he could be the wide player we are looking for.

It would be great if we could get Adomah aswell though!

I would rather we did a swap deal for Admomah, or Baldock, or just kept JET to be honest.

Can't really see JET being happy to drop down to Div 3. A luxury player, maybe, but still better than that.

Seemed very promising a couple of years ago but in all honesty I think we'd be better sticking with JET if it were just a straight swap..

although he isn't many peoples cup of tea essentially giving him away would be an incredible waste for a player who possesses so much talent.

I wouldn't be against Anderson coming here as the club and player could be a very good match but I'd be weary of the deal that brings him here not giving us good value.

I feel a bit sorry for JET, but then again he's had his chances.
I bet he feels like a Panini sticker in the swapsies pile.

Still think JET can come good , he just needs to knuckle down , we shouldn't be underestimating his worth , even if we want to offload his wages. that swop doesn't look much like a good deal for us and can't see him dropping a division

Be happy with this swap. We'd be swapping a player who nobody knows his best position for a proper winger!

Can't see Jet dropping down a division though, so why don't we just buy Anderson?

I'm guessing Skuse can help convince him to sign.

I don't know this guy, the question is whether purely on a talent basis he is better than JET (mood/morale/"laziness" put aside)? If not, then moving on...

JETs had two years to knuckle down and now he's in the final year of his contract. Good deal this. Get it done so JET doesn't leave on a free I'm a years time or continue to burden the pay role.

Chances are up to prove your worth I'm afraid. Wish him all the best. No animosity, just not what we need to get us out of this division!

If you are looking for a player to produce one tricky bit of skill coming off the bench with 15 minutes to go then JET is your man.
He won't come good - League 1 is about his level. Don't forget he'll still have to run about, which is not his favourite thing to do. Let's stop all the talk about him staying, give me players like Tabb over him any day of the week.

Looks to me that we are trying to make the best of a poor situation that is having a big earning under acheiving player on our books,so we are thinking about swapping him for Anderson, who was looking good untill he lost his way, bit like Carson, after a couple of injurys. Mick might feel its a gamble worth taking.

Play JET in an open, attacking team and he'll shine, like he did in the second half of 2011/12. Question is, will we ever be that under Mick? A rigid 4-4-2 is good up to a point.

Will be interesting to see how Mick approaches this season with regards to style of play.

Dont see JET wanting to go to league 1 on lower wages? I think he would rather wait until his contract runs out because he is on higher wages here unless a prem club comes in

Utter Rubbish. Real stories please.

I am with Garv think JET would do us a good job played in an attacking confident side ,something we as a team have had only had brief spells of in his time with us . Think under MM we will be at the right end of the table and he could get us useful points ,on his day he is unplayable we just need to get more of those days out of him

JET and Lee Martin came in for alot of criticism but in both cases have been played as conventional wingers, neither of them are wingers at all, both in my opinion are best placed in an attacking role through the middle just off a striker or strikers. Unfortunately this position is a luxury if you have the all round quality through out the side, a luxury we could ill afford during their time with us. I believe both players have obvious talent, they are not poor players, just didn't work for us sadly.

Interesting to see how much JET divides opinion. On one day he can be truly awful and can't be bothered, but then other days he seems like a Premier League player, suppose clubs can't figure him out if he is being to linked to teams like Fulham and Bristol City, 2 divisions apart. Not seen too much of Anderson but we should be wary if Bristol City are willing to swap him with JET.
