Blues in Heskey Talks
Blues in Heskey Talks
Friday, 20th Jul 2012 10:50

Town are in talks with former England international Emile Heskey. The 34-year-old is out of contract having left Aston Villa earlier in the summer.

A national newspaper broke the news of the Blues' interest in the veteran striker earlier today, with TWTD sources more locally backing up the report.

Last night, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that Town are close to making their fourth signing of the summer with a big frontman in the Heskey mould very much amongst his targets.

Heskey started his career with Leicester City before moving on to Liverpool, Birmingham, Wigan and then finally Villa.

Jewell previously signed 6ft 2in tall Heskey whilst at Wigan during the summer of 2006.

Poll: In favour of Emile Heskey joining the Blues?

I will be very annoyed if big Emile comes to ITFC. He is not a step in the right direction and his wages will be huge. We need younger players, who need to prove a point and can provide a youthful energy.
Not the signing to make if we want to better mediocrity like every other year.

Well, this will provide a talking point and a very mixed reaction if nothing else! I personally think it would be worth a punt but only if he falls into our wage structure. He is very good at holding the ball up and would provide many goals for Chopra. Not a prolific scorer as we all know but at Championship level he may get a few. A good strong physical presence though which we have been lacking for many years.

Plus we have one of the highest prices for ticket sales & have sold Wickham for £8m+, so money surely can't be that tight. We have spent barely anything so far, take £1m for Derby's top performer Davies, and challenge for the play offs.

I think it is worth a punt if Blackburn are willing to gamble on a 36 yr old nuno gomes why can't we try a bit of hesky? Big man up front will give defenders something else to focus on whilst chops bags them in.

'would provide many goals for Chopra'

14 assists in 4 seasons.

Prefer to base judgement on facts such as the one above but some stats aren't available (such as 'defenders drawn away', 'free kicks won', 'assisted goal although not the final ball through')

I would hope that PJ has better information available to him (such as the match performance stats per player).

If the wages are right perhaps a year might be a good gamble.

Frankly anyone who doesn't want Heskey at our club is a moron.

OMG Lee Chapman,Stern John Sam Parkin all before PJ's time then there is 'The Duke' with Ramadan coming up he will be fasting shortly !!!
No Burley strikers coming towards the end of careers have ever done any good here as far as I can recall, and even Shefki and Scowy weren't so good second time round.
Certainly a big gamble

You would think that pj would have learned his lesson about signing experienced players in their mid thirties that are looking for one last sizable contract? I can't see this happening, his wages would be a stumbling block I think. I can see Heskey signing for a foreign club now, somewhere in the States maybe.

A big gamble sure, but as long as the wages are fair then I'd rather have Heskey playing for us than against us. He'll worry most of the defenders at this level.

Stopped watching England when sven picked him instead of Marcus Stewart.Hopefully doesn't fall over if someone sneezes anymore.

He hasn't scored that many goals recently ... for Villa in the Prem, against Prem defences - and as an international for England in World Cups and Euros. Dropping a level to the Championship, against Championship defences, could put him very much on the positive side of the talent differential (as long as, at the age of 34, he stays fit).

Does anyone understand that you need experience to get out if this division as well as youth? Some of these comments are mental!

Assists arent everything, his hold up play, bringing others in and being a foil for Chopra and the rest of the team are what he will bring to the team.

Stats can be manipulated to agree with anyones point of view if needs be!

I suppose if we are looking for a "big frontman in the Heskey mould", then Emile Heskey is a pretty good fit.

Then again, driving a 6'2" wooden stake into the penalty are might serve the same purpose as Heskey.
