Blues in Heskey Talks
Blues in Heskey Talks
Friday, 20th Jul 2012 10:50

Town are in talks with former England international Emile Heskey. The 34-year-old is out of contract having left Aston Villa earlier in the summer.

A national newspaper broke the news of the Blues' interest in the veteran striker earlier today, with TWTD sources more locally backing up the report.

Last night, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that Town are close to making their fourth signing of the summer with a big frontman in the Heskey mould very much amongst his targets.

Heskey started his career with Leicester City before moving on to Liverpool, Birmingham, Wigan and then finally Villa.

Jewell previously signed 6ft 2in tall Heskey whilst at Wigan during the summer of 2006.

Poll: In favour of Emile Heskey joining the Blues?

Heskey will be knocking them out of the way and Chopra will be putting it the net.

I heard from a reliable source back in May that Heskey was a target. I accept we need some experience in teh squad - but have a fair amount after last season's signings. Trouble with Heskey is he is too old, too injury prone - right up PJ's street. Oh and as a striker - he doesn't score goals!!

This would be without doubt a truely terrible signing and expensive.

He wont score many goals but he's a nightmare for opposition defenders.. and set's up loads... worth a punt :)

This will be a nightmare for our groundsmen, having to keep re-levelling the Portman road pitch after every match.

Well I'm really not sure about this and hope it doesn't happen. Never really rated Heskey although he does hold the ball up, he can't run and his shooting and goals to games ratio return is shocking. Does anyone know how many goals and appearances he made last season ?

Haha. Would rather have Michael Owen but I suppose you can't really be picky when it comes to former England internationals. :p

oh dear oh dear oh dear!
not a goalscorer, and scotland can do a similar job but with more goals!
he was on massive wages as well at Villa so who knows what wages he would want!

Hang on a minute!! I bet PJ wants to play him in defence. That may not be so bad. Phew . . . . For a minute there, I thought he was the mystery striker!!

He's trending on twitter now.

But seriously, ignore all the jokes and people laughing, he is a quality player. And perhaps people are forgetting something - we are IPSWICH - to most people a mediocre Championship club. This could be the signing we need.

I thought the policy of siging has beens had gone so really hope this is not true.
Heskey may be big and powerful just what we want, but far too laid back for me and his scoring record is not good. Different kind of player I know but would rather have Scotland up front. Perhaps PJ will give them a half each in every game as realistically how many games is Heskey going to play the full 90 minutes in the hurly burly of the Championship. Very surprised with this if true and goes against everthing wee are trying to build. Having said that if he is in a blue shirt I'll cheer him on.

He would be a good signing. He would add something different. He would do what Jewell wanted Ellington to do but hopefully do it well! Although this is a gamble so I can see why some are concerned.

??? so cannot afford another goal keepers wages but can afford Heskey's wages something doesn't add up here do we need another goal keeper or do we need another striker?

would much rather heskey be part of the squad than ellington. could be useful in the championship.. cant expect to be paid too much at his age suppose it depends how much he liked working with paul jewell!

The step down in the championship might be what Heskey needs, I'm all for it, plus he scored against the Germans, can't be all bad;)
