Wright Linked With Preston

Exiting Town keeper Richard Wright is interesting League One Preston North End, according to reports. Wright joined the Blues on a short-term deal in November and made one appearance during his third spell at Portman Road but wasn’t offered a new deal at the end of the campaign.

The 34-year-old is keen to keep playing on a regular basis and went on trial with MLS side Dallas FC in January, but wasn’t given a contract.

The former England man, who recently said he'd like to be a goalkeeper-coach when his playing days are over, is currently spending time at Charlton working for his UEFA B Licence.

Good Luck Wrighty, you were one of the few players who could be bothered to talk to supporters at the awards night.... top man!

PJ if you have to sign up someone over 30 make it Wrighty PLEASE!!!
Still got it if we can keep him fit, would still make a great No.1. IMO.

He needs to be playing games regularly to rediscover his form. Without any reserve games his options were limited at Town.

Sacrificed a really promising career to chase the dollar and rot on various subs benches. It'll keep him in decent motors in his dotage but he wont be able to look back on anything like the career he should have had.

it says in edat that wrighty siad .."its time to look after no.1"

I still havent stopped laughing!! Thats all he's ever done, by being prepared to sit on the bench all his a craeer and take the vast wages he's been paid. A sad example of the modern professional footballer I fear.

Yer good luck 2 him. He should have been our first choice last season, that would also saved money on risky loans!!

The above posters are right about him sitting on Premier League substitute benches, not playing enough first team football.

Looking on Wiki, he's made 299 appearances in 3 spells at Ipswich. Other than that though, very little. 12 for Arsenal (2001-2002). 60 for Everton (2002-2006). 0 for West Ham (2007-2008).

I believe Ipswich wanted him in 2007 but from memory he chose Premier League West Ham and spent the season on the bench.

Hope it works out. RW is one of ours and I always wish him well. (Agree too, from personal experience, with the above comments about his attitude to the supporters.) Wrighty should, of course, not have moved on so soon, but hindsight is a fine thing. I don't blame a young player (as he was then) for aiming for the top or for making a mistake. If he could have stayed fit, I would have been very happy to hear he was still back-up keeper at PR next season.

Richard Wright was and still is a good Keeper.True he chased the money,Who would not have done the same? But sadly he chose the easy way to earn his pay by sitting on the bench for so long letting his best playing time slip away for good.He will never get that time back again? But saying that he still has enough skill to produce some of the old Wrighty we knew. But is now injury prone and misses training often because of this. Would he still be good enough for Town today ?,I think maybe? not to sure if it would be worth taking the chance?.Any way good luck Richard what ever the future holds for you. COYB

The Evening Star has the headline 'It's time to look after #1'. Sadly that's the very reason he left here in the first place - didn't think about the team then did he, just himself and his career.

Can we just get a few facts straight here, Wrighty did not chase the money! He signed a long term deal with us but asked to have a clause put in his contract that if Arsenal (and only Arsenal) approached with a large enough offer he could leave. He signed with assurances that he would be the first choice keeper and his stats per game for Arsenal were better than Seaman's. He would have come back to Town but by this time we had been relegated and couldn't afford him. He left for Everton to get regular football and it was no coincidence that they finished fourth that season with Wrighty between the sticks. He subsequently went wherever his best chance was of getting back in the Engalnd frame but never managed it largely because of injury.

Sadly Richard is very injury prone. However, I wish him luck - but we need to move forward and by getting rid of Richard it is a positive step in the right direction.

He chasedthe money in his prime, fact!

He played a season at Arsena then spent rest of his career there on the bench, same at everton & West Ham were he turned us down when he could have got regular football. He is also without doubt one of the most outstanding players I have had the pleasure of seeing in the blue shirt, he should now be in his prime, not looking at playing league one football, but he only has himself to blame on that count. We move on and get someone else in although I agree, was surprised he didnt play more last season as ALB is nowhere near good enough by a milion miles!

Was he loyal when he went to Arsenal/West Ham? If he was that top a player he wouldnt be going to Preston! No good having a go at Jewell, he's trying to improve the squad not be all nostalgic over good players from the 90's.

Let's go with 11 outfield players, now we haven't got any goalkeepers.
