Hull: Town are Paying £320,000 for Bullard
Hull: Town are Paying £320,000 for Bullard
Wednesday, 2nd Feb 2011 10:24

Hull City's head of football operations Adam Pearson has reiterated his claim that Town are paying around £20,000 of loanee Jimmy Bullard’s £45,000 weekly wage. Bullard, who scored on his debut for the Blues in last night's 2-1 victory at Derby, is at Portman Road for the remainder of the season.

Pearson says Town are paying £321,480 towards the 32-year-old’s salary: "We're getting nearly £20,000 a week and it's a £320,000 contribution.

“People may sniff at that but in the Championship that's an awful lot of money and more than pays for the three or four players we've brought in."

Sources at Town continue to insist that they are paying a weekly share nearer the £10,000 mark originally reported, although no official confirmation is likely with the Blues rarely if ever making comment on individual players’ earnings.

If Town are paying £20,000-a-week towards Bullard's salary, it would almost certainly mean that the Blues' share of his wages is higher than anyone is currently being paid at Portman Road.

Pearson, who revealed the figures in the programme for Hull's 2-2 draw with Leeds last night, says Bullard’s contract, signed during the Tigers’ time in the Premier League when he moved from Fulham for £5 million, makes up around a fifth of his planned budget for next season: "Jimmy is an undoubted talented player who has two-and-a-half years left at this club.

“His contract alone is 21 per cent of our total playing wage budget for next season so we hope he comes back in the summer match fit and that he's ready to go."

It is pretty poor form to discuss wages in the media. Town should have said a percentage and left it at that and Hull should have also remained coy about the situation. Still; he is a good player (when fit) and will give the team a lift as well as the fans!

V unprofessional of Hull. And still don't believe their figures. They may reflect what they are saving, but it doesn't mean we are paying this. For instance, Hull may be factoring in expected win/goal bonuses in their numbers - we may just be referring to salary. This could easily be the difference between £15k (which is what I had heard quoted) and "almost £20k".

The good news for us is that Hull are unable to be able to afford to keep him at that salary and will surely be looking to settle his contract and moving him on. if he does well for us, and enjoys his football, we may be able to get him for a snip at the end of the season.

Until then, he can score as many goals as he wishes like last night's I can't think of another player we have who could have hit the ball like that.

sorry for previous posting premature carriage return - i'm getting medication for it, anyway....

'we' that is ITFC are not saying what 'we' are paying, and rightly so, the figure of 10k was a Phil said just paper talk.

This may make it more difficult now for Major Clegg to reach an amicable agreement with Chuck and Mac,hope not but dare I say that BFP has started to sort out the mess left by his predecessor and is doing ok to date although early days.COYB

To some extent, I don't care how much we paid. If Bullard continues to play, score goals, chase, encourage the team and help organise the defence of set pieces as he did last night (once he got going), it's worth all of £320K over the rest of the season. He was still laughing and joking as he got on the bus after the game.

Jog on northerners.....

Below the belt tactic to unsettle our dressing room and keep yours happy.

If (but I doubt) we are paying 20k a week that means YOU are paying 25k a week for NOTHING, SILCH, ZIPPO...

was talking to the father one one of the Burnley lads in the hotel last night (he was stopping over having been to watch the Burnely game) says he is not impressed at all with Austin! Also speaking to a randam FA guy, massive Wickham fan been following him a long time, and thinks Bullard if he can stay fit is quality. Mind he also thought Prisken played ok which i dont agree with... some very interesting conversations going on!!!!

"So Austin starts for Burnley last night and scores none with his team losing, Bullard comes in scores a cracker and helps the team to a win, good business i say then!"

You're calling this good business based on ONE game? Austin fails to score in his first game at this level with a whole new set of team mates and you've written him off?

I really don't want to be rude but you're a bit thick aren't you? Or were you just mucking about?

If Jimmy carries on doing what he did last night then it'll be money very well spent...here's hoping this loan move works out for us & Jimmy...would love to see him here permanently.

£320,000 for the rest of the season equates to about £700,000 for a whole season. To put this into perspective, 3 seasons would total £2.1m which is about the fee we paid for Norris when he arrived on a 3 year contract. However, in Bullard's case this figure is 'all inclusive' - loan fee, wages etc, whereas Norris' wages and any bonuses would be in addition to the transfer fee paid. I believe that this makes the Bullard deal look like a good bit of business.

had a grin like a big kid when he left the pitch, a guy who really wants to play football and i hope for his sake and ours that he stays injury free, money cannot buy that kind of passion (dont forget he could be sitting on his bum at Hull for the same money!)

I hate to say it.......But I bet Captain calamity had a hand in Jimmies Deal too so I say well done Cleggy, good man. £320K for half a season? He's worth twice that. Can we do it again? yes we can! Let's get behind them on saturday, Even Cleggy!

I reckon we can still nip 6th place if we can keep up this momentum. 71 points might just do it thats 10 wins and 7 draws. Come on we can win half our games!!

Desperatley needed, a player who can genuinely influence a game. £320k is worth spending to keeep us in this division. We've already got enough average players like Norris.

Well worth every penny. We will see that at the end of the season when he scores the winning goal which certifies our play off place!!

Although clearly a decent player (and what a goal last night) BUT clearly not fully fit and injury prone. It has become obvious that the senior management are content with loan deals. Personally, I think this is an obscene amount of money to pay for a loan player - who may or may not stay fit. At the end of the season he will go back to Hull and we'll get nothing. A player like Austin or another on a permanent deal would have been an investment. We could have sold them at a later date. £320K for essentially a loanee is madness!

P.s. Not sure why Hull needed to make this public knowledge. Dread to think what impact this will have on our squad. Hope this is not another Sereni/George. If I was Norris / McAuley I would ask for £20K a week now.
