McAuley Told He Can Leave
McAuley Told He Can Leave
Wednesday, 16th Sep 2009 22:27

Central defender Gareth McAuley has confirmed that Town have made him available for transfer. The Northern Irish international has had a difficult start to the season and was red-carded during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old, who was recently stripped of the captaincy, says he has been told to find a new club: “My agent got a call from the chairman who said if a club could be found for me then to go ahead.”

McAuley, who was recently linked with Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, joined the Blues last summer for £1.1 million from Leicester having been chased by former manager Jim Magilton since the previous transfer window.

What is going on with RK? Just a few short weeks ago GM was made captain of the team, now he's told that he is surplus to requirements and is free to leave. Also can't understand that when Keano was appointed Manager we had three reconigsed left backs at the club and now Thatcher is told he can leave all three will have left and we are left with Delaney who has a job to find the touchline let alone ateammate when he has the ball.

Villageblues - a few weeks ago RK took the captains armband from Gareth McAuley and gave it to Alex Bruce!!

RK also stated that any player that wasn't prepared to live close to training ground/ PR would NOT feature in his plans. Thatcher was not prepared to do it so he has been made free to leave!!

Artrhur-Strong your comments are spot on, McAuley needed somone such as De Vos beside him for at least a season. All credit to him, he had a go at the Captains role, and the pressure on him even last season was too much for him - he did his best.
I am still convinced he can be a reasonable player - but he needs help - not pressure. Shittu beside him would be ideal.
Beware of the same happeninng to Pim - if it hasn't already!!!! - or indeed Bruce.
It is so obvious - we desparately need an experienced central defender - and of course a consistent striker - although I thought we paid £1.7m for one - obviously I was wrong.

The shameful, yes shameful, thing is - this could completely ruin McAuley's career.
Until his mistake in the last moments of the game on Tuesday he had been having a sound game.

Just posted a couple of blanks - shows how our current form is affecting me personally.
I have to say this: Although there are many supporters , like myself, who are not at all satisfied with the current status of our club, on, and perhaps off the field, I do wonder about some supporters who, even now, continue to give excuses and seem to lack any ambition/ desire for the club to be successful again. The reason, I and others, are not satisfied is because we want success and feel we deserve it - and do not feel that what is currently evident is acceptable for many reasons.
We cannot keep saying, 'we have x amount of months of the season left' , 'we still have x amount of points to play for', 'we can afford to lose x amount more games' - this is grasping at straws and absolute c--- talk.
What is needed right now, and onwards, is points - because without them, at the end of the season - WE ARE STUFFED - JUST LIKE THE PROVERBIAL CANARY.

Yes, we finished 6 points off the play-offs, in 9th position.

As for McAuley, well he's just one man. Football is about teamwork and building a team, and keeping the same team week in, week out so partnerships, etc can be developed. Keane is very wrong to keep changing the 11, it stunts progress and prevents any morale from growing in the side.

Keane is clueless. The sooner he goes the better - he's had more than enough time to sort this mess out - he can change the players but he can't change his attitude towards them or the team. The man is totally wrong for ITFC.

Good decision, didn't exactly have age on his side and has made two shambolic errors in the same amount of games, along with a whole load last season. Shame we couldn't offload him to Boro in the transfer window really.

Bring Shittu in, and wack him along side Bruce.

"Keane is clueless. The sooner he goes the better - he's had more than enough time to sort this mess out..."

So, UEFA81 - just how much time is enough? Is 7 or 8 league games across two different seasons when rebuilding a squad too long a time then? How can Jim have had 3 years and Keano barely has 3 months??? Or do you want to be like Newcastle, Southampton or QPR and change managers every 6 months (or less) just because they don't guarantee promotion instantly?! And yes, I know Newcastle are doing well at the moment, but they had to suffer a relegation to do it!

dobbie - Keane could have all the time in the world but it wouldn't change his attitude or dumb-ass tactics. Let's say in another 10 games, surely in that time we are bound to get the odd lucky win or two, that's the way the game goes, but it won't be down to anything positive Keane has done. A lot of people on here think I am negative about the team, well I'm not. I simply cannot stand Keane and what he is doing to my club. Imo, I am being realistic.

I would go so far as to say that even if we had a squad of top-class players, Keane's profoundly negative influence, bizarre tactics and sould destroying attitude would make even them look mediocre. He's a bully and a hothead and behaves like a spoilt child. He doesn't give partnerships or the team 'time to gel' so I can't see why he should be given time to sort my beloved Town out either; it would be like giving my Ford Focus time to turn into a Rolls Royce. It's not gonna happen.

How much longer will it be, and how much more humiliation must be endure before the penny drops with a lot of my fellow supporters that Keane is not right for ITFC? How much more damage will be done in the meantime? I dread to think!

Stop the rot now before we fall into the abyss of league 1.

I can't say I agree with you UEFA81, but that's your opinion, and that's fair enough.

I think for we will just have to shake hands, agree to disagree, and at some point this season it could be that one of us may have to eat a slice of humble pie, lol!

To get back to the topic - saw MacCauley & Thatcher in their first start for us, I think it was away at Burnley (when parachutist got stuck on roof - was the most entertaining part of the afternoon, and it was all downhill from there, ho ho).

They were both inept, clumsy, slow and useless then, and nothing has changed since, from the few away games I've seen but also match and fan reports. Well shot of both imho. To those saying "give McC time" - unbelievable, is 1.5 seasons not enough??!!

To both the Jim-bashers and Roy-lovers - neither quite good enough - but J had 3 years and signed (people seem to forget) 3 quality, key players in Wright, Wright and Pablo. RK's had 2 + 7 games + close season and has signed 3 quality key plays - Leadbitter, Edwards, Rosenior on loan. It's Delaney + Healey in, + the letting go of Rhodes (never given a run/chance to show what he could do)/ D. Wright, + the lack of any apparent style or applied tactics, and the apparent muddled thinking that I can't forgive at the mo. RK seems to chop, change and just hop hopelessly from game to game. Something just ain't working. Wonder if he himself feels he's made wrong choice to come to PR. He's clearly the guy to boot out the non-triers - good - but after that, he seems to me very uncomfortable in his role, square peg in round hole. Could be he's also surprised he hasn't managed to lure people to the Club with the ease that he perhaps expected.

What really hit all this home to me most - hearing BBC match reporters describing us as "awful". In 35 years of supporting Town, that was a first. 3 points I can just about take at this stage of season, but week after week of poor, poor playing with null style, I cannot.
Roy needs to sort that out PRONTO, otherwise either the fans will vote with their feet, or his own feet will do the talking/walking I think ...
