McAuley Told He Can Leave
McAuley Told He Can Leave
Wednesday, 16th Sep 2009 22:27

Central defender Gareth McAuley has confirmed that Town have made him available for transfer. The Northern Irish international has had a difficult start to the season and was red-carded during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old, who was recently stripped of the captaincy, says he has been told to find a new club: “My agent got a call from the chairman who said if a club could be found for me then to go ahead.”

McAuley, who was recently linked with Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, joined the Blues last summer for £1.1 million from Leicester having been chased by former manager Jim Magilton since the previous transfer window.

Tractor_lady, I agree. The Leicester fans I know were sad to see him leave as they thought he gave them a decent chance of getting out of the third division. He's clearly not a carthorse but something has been very wrong since he's moved to Town.
One thing Keano seems not to have picked up from Clough and Fergie is the staunch support of his players in public - although on this occasion, the story seems to have come from the player and his agent.

Do I need to write 'COYB' now to prove I love my team?

I dont think he's even good enough to play for Accrington Stanley.

It's good to see that Keano is correcting all the bad decisions of tragic and getting rid of all the bad signings that he made!

Perhaps the whole squad should forget the Lucozade Sport and get some of the white stuff in them..

The fact of the matter is, if you agree with McAuley being placed on the transfer list or not. RK has made the decision...so we should all get behind the team.

I have never know so many fans to have so much bitching and infighting as town fans.

It ashames me to admit we might be the worst at actually supporting our team.

It seems some town fans have the mentality that as soon as a player makes a mistake instead of supporting him, to then jump on his back, thus decreasing his confidence and making more mistakes.

I know id rather go and play football in front of 20 thousand people supporting me then them groaning if i made a mistake.

Its about time Ipswich fans just started supporting the team again, getting behind players even if they do make a mistake. Its very much all about confidence and at the moment we do not have any.

So the boo boys are not going to help

We have got the best fans in the league.. How many times have you spotted Newcastle fans wearing shirts in a street near you? How on earth can they call themselves true fans when they never go to games.

I am confident in saying EVERY Ipswich has been to Portman road at least 10 times in their life - meaning that WE ARE TRUE SUPPORTERS and the best the league can get.

Come on you Blues!

I spoke to some Leicester fans about this signing when Magilton bought him and they rubbed their hands together after we paid them a lot of money for what they deemed a weak link in their back four......Leicester seem to have come on leaps and bounds without him! Maybe we will.......

He has been a consistent liability within our back four since he signed, no leadership, doesnt even win that many headers for his size, cant use his feet that well.....he does try and play like Rio Ferdinand but he is more like Franz Ferdinand!!!! He has international experience and he shows is that he makes schoolboy errors!! Roy is right to let him go (if anyone will have hime! please take him Jim) he cant even handle Clinton Morrisson or Dele Adebola so what use is he for a club trying to build for the future and hopefully the premier league!

Another good signing from Jim - if you are paid all that money a week and cant control your self to stay on the pitch them your not ITFC player. Make sure we have someone else to replace him before he gets booted out

agree with some of these comments. RK is shaping his team/squad and he'll get time but its a results business. If RK cant get the best out of players there and the ones he brings in and keeps loses the he is out of a job. Like letting McCauley go thats his decision but when the Chairman/Owner has to make a decision you can be sure they will let Keane go if results dont improve. As RK said he wants everything yesterday and so may the owner.

you are obviously one of the pro magilton camp and would love to have him back

How can you slag Keane? He wants to see players work for their money, players who want to play for the shirt and get this club on the move.

When he took over we were stale, last season was poor and the football was the same.

No one is saying the sun shines out of his rear, but I know that i would have Keane in our seat ahead of many others.

He tells it the way it is, he wont hide behind the players, he has guts and will get us a team that plays with guts too. I am fed up of us being too nice and pretty in the middle of the park, that dosent work in this league, all teams are well organised and have big nasty players who get stuck in. Leadbitter looked quality Tuesday, he was talking, getting things organised, he is a box to box player and he gets stuck in and does the dirty stuff. That is what you need to get out of this league, battlers, not players who take 5K + a week and achive nothing in games.

I like Keane, i will support Keane, and I will always support my club through thick and thin, that will not change. If I have an opinion on players in our team I will voice them and so can everyone else.

Believe me Keane's £8 million has been spent a darn sight better than Magiltons 12 so I am more than happy with what he is doing.

I see points coming, and I have always said forget promotion this season, its not going to happen. But if all we get out of this season is a decent squad and players who earn every pound of their wages then next season will be the one for me.

WE HAVEN'T ONE A GAME THIS SEASON & HAVE SCORED 5 GOALS IN 8 GAMES. WE'VE ALSO KICKED OVER £6M TO THE KERB. HALF OF A TEAM ONE PLACE FROM LAST YEARS PLAYOFFS ARE EITHER ON THE LIST OR OUT THE SQUAD. SMELL THE COFFEE.

Why don't we try an do a swap deal with Wood and McCauley? Would suit both clubs as McCauley is no longer wanted here and Wood obviously want to leave Sheff Wed????

I have supported the Blues since 1968 and am beginning to feel despair. I understand the need for unity in tough times but we also have to be realistic. There does seem to be any sense of rhyme or reason to Keane's activities in the transfer market. He has spent a fortune in our terms and yet we have glaring deficiencies as always in the middle of defence and up front. The constant chopping and changing is a joke. Let Priskin and Counago develop as a unit, we also have Walters and Stead as support. Midfield is choc a bloc but with no pattern or shape. At the abck what has David Wright done wrong. For all his commitment is Alex Bruce really up to it. Why buy Delany. Why let Schumi go. I do worry about Keane in that everything seems to become personal with him. Do not be surprised if he spits the dummy and walks. He has a tarck record after all. I can't believe the position we are in and can't take too many more .. ' it'll take time to gel' bollocks. Time is something we haven't got.

We won't get relegated this year nor will we win promotion, but one thing is for sure RK is building a team that will tear the league apart next season. Lets all get behind RK and show our support! We WILL get that elusive win Saturday and that will be the groundwork completed, we can then watch in delight at our team building for the future!

Forever supporting Ipswich Town (through thick & thin)

Why should promotion have been out of the question? Keane took Sunderland from the bottom to 1st place in his first season with Sunderland (a team that finisked last by a mile in the premiership the year previously). He inherited a team that was in 8th place and 6 points off the play-offs. The football was not attractive but I bet that's not why Magilton was shown the door!

For some reason Keane has not got it together just yet - rebuilding a team takes time but was radical rebuilding necessary???

There's 117 points still to play for. That means we can lose ANOTHER 5 games and STILL go up as out-and-out champions! OK, maybe that is stretching it ... or is it? It is still early in the season, and many of the early pacesetters will burn out too early. Surely its better to hit form a little later and maintain it till the end? Just as long as we don't get cut adrift obviously .... Anyone remember 1992, how Blackurn were so far ahead at one point, then we caught them, overtook them, won the division, and they only just made the playoffs??

Worrying start, but there is a helluva long way to go yet!

Thank God. I wouldn't go as far as to say that he wasn't worth the money, but what I would say is that in all the matches I have seen McAuley in he NEVER won a single header. The only thing he's doing when defending a long ball is standing in the players back to make sure that he won't run past him - not focusing on the ball at all.

Against Forest he didn't win a single tackle and who can ever defend the shambles he almost got us in at the end?

I could keep analyzing McAuley. I will never get my head round why anyone can say that he never got the chance neither that anyone will argue that he is good enough at Championship-level. He played two seasons for Leicester City in the Championship, and the only way for Leicester since he arrived was down!

Jim Magilton only brought him in because he scored twice against us at Portman Road back in 2007 and because of the Northern Irish connection.

Bring back De Vos!
