McAuley Told He Can Leave
McAuley Told He Can Leave
Wednesday, 16th Sep 2009 22:27

Central defender Gareth McAuley has confirmed that Town have made him available for transfer. The Northern Irish international has had a difficult start to the season and was red-carded during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old, who was recently stripped of the captaincy, says he has been told to find a new club: “My agent got a call from the chairman who said if a club could be found for me then to go ahead.”

McAuley, who was recently linked with Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, joined the Blues last summer for £1.1 million from Leicester having been chased by former manager Jim Magilton since the previous transfer window.

i think telling gareth mcauley he can leave is a total disgrace he his bo no means the worst defender we have at the club you could clearly see in the second half against forest he was carrying a injury there are far to many players at the club who just have no desire to play for keane all hes trying to do is make ipswich town another sunderland fc which is not going to work and where is owen garvan he may be young but as for passing the football well hes about one of only a handful who can i honestly think the reason we are not getting results is we have just not got the players in the squad who are good enough apart from the odd one or two and that dosent make a team

the boo boys are right my friend as we all pay are money to watch are team play and its are money paid which contributes to a players wages so i think we are all in the right to complain dont you? for what he did last night is unforgiveable a school boy would have done better and again it nearly cost us the match how many chances can you give a player i think he has had a few too many chances

how can you defend a player who keeps costing us i mean are you happy to keep him and let this keep happening from what i read on here there are many fans defending him come on get a grip guys we may not do much better without him but we cant do much worse

we had chances to go 2 up in the game but we are just not clinical enough at the moment balls into the box are not brilliant and we keep wasting corners we need a win asap we have donny on sat one of our bogey sides as we never seem to beat them then newcastle cant see a win there but we never know we just need to get the ball rolling with a win

Shame. I thought he was quite a good player who undeservedly got the stick for a lot of last season's bad performances. He did take a while to find his groove at the start of last year but I agree he wasn't the De Vos/Mogga figure we needed.

Good luck to him, just hope he doesn't come back to bite us in the arse.

I can't see how people can stick up for him, he gets pulled out of position time & time again, it's embarrasing to watch him sometimes. Even on the odd time we keep a clean sheet he's been given the run around. There has got to be an old experienced CB out there somewhere, most teams have one when they go up. I kno we're not going to up this season but get an old head in place & it'll pay dividends. Sol would hav been good but we had no chance.
Get ya head around we're not going to go up & prepare for a great finish to the season, we'll be in the top 3 all next season.

people write huge amounts on here but please be honest, Gareth McAuley has been crap more or less from day one. sure he has played some good games but generally he does not inspire confidence as shown on Tuesday night with terrible defending. I will not miss him.

AND ABOUT TIME TOO.................NOW FOR JON STEAD

THOSE 2 ALONE WERE THE WEAKEST LINKS ON TUESDAY, STEAD CAN NOT HEADER A BALL TO SAVE HIS LIFE, THE GUY IS A GIANT AND HAS THE JUMP OF A KANGAROO WITH BROKEN LEGS.........

I FEEL SORRY FOR KEANO, HE GAVE THESE LADS A CHANCE TO STEP UP AND THEY DIDNT TAKE IT, TIME TO GO LADS......

GRANT LEADBITTER IS QUALITY, A BIT OF NASTY IN THE MIDDLE, THIS TEAM WILL COME GOOD WITH THE LIKES OF STEAD AND MACAULEY OUT!!

PROMOTION?? NOT THIS SEASON, BUT IF MAGILTON WAS GIVEN 3 YEARS AND DONE NOTHING, WATCH WHAT KEANE CAN DO IN THAT TIME, HE IS THE GENERAL SO JUST SUPPORT AND GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE CLOUDS, THE TEAM WAS NEVER GOOD ENOUGH FOR PROMOTION PERIOD. THE LADS THAT HE BROUGHT IN FROM SUNDERLAND LOOKED A NOTCH UP FROM WHAT WE ARE USED TO, JUST SUPPORT YOUR CLUB AND LEAVE IT TO ROY, HE IS THE MAN...!!

How some on here state that Mcdonkey is our best centre back beggars belief! He makes error after error, he's slow, he doesn't motivate & he's a liabilty. I agree that he shouldn't have been given the captaincy so soon on arrival, this was too much too soon for him.

Shane supple was upset with town because the players attitudes to winning or loosing was always the same. This player always struck me as some one with a couldn't careless attitude and that has probaly frustrated RK to the point of depair. We have been linked with loan moves for a couple of defenders, but this management has shown it will sell players without there being any replacement.

SomershamBlue added 08:05 - Sep 17
I thought that he was not up to the job - too inconsistent and, after having the captaincy taken off him (which was the right thing to do), he seemed to have lost his confidence.

So, best thing is for him to go with our best wishes for the future - and we move on.

The worrying thing for me is that during pre season RK thought him good enough to make him captain, then after dropping him and giving the captaincy to Bruce good confidence booster, he turns down an offer to sell him in the transfer window but then tells him he can leave !!!!
It all strikes of RK not knowing what his best team is ,formation or how to handle players which is why the players apart from a few turned against him at Sunderland. He is quite clearly trying to get rid of all of Jims team who have at some stage all been told they are not wanted not good enough whilst the majority of his signings are poor and have not improved the team in any area . We were not far away in the last two seasons a prolific scorer and we could have gone up now we look like a struggling side who will have to fight to stay up !!!!!!

I think it's a case of one in one out. I'm sure that RK has a target in mind - which may or may not be Shittu despite the speculation. Surely there is some young Irish lad available from November who we can bring in and keep warm until the next Irish season starts? Joking apart, I'm certain that there are quite a few Prem centre halfs watching from the stands not even getting on the bench at their clubs that could do a job for us.

Shame though as for his "bramblesque" entertainment value he was first rate.

campowasgod added 08:33 - Sep 17
I for one will not miss his driven passes to our strikers which are overhit by half a pitch !
He has little skill and control and will therefore ALWAYS make costly mistakes .
His last two mistakes (Midd and N. For) were not from poor positioning or poor tackling but from a basic lack of control , skill and finese and being a great big horses arse.
I'm sorry but any money from any club will do.
we have Smith , Pim and Bruce - another would be great but if not we're ok.

I got mixed feelings about this one. I hate the way that so many fans have got on his back to the extent that the attacks have almost been personal, but given his performances, some criticism WAS justified. I guess I just don't like seeing decent players having their career brought to a shuddering halt. And he was good at Leicester; Sheff Utd and Boro still wanted him recently; and he is a NI international ffs!! Just hope Keano has got a replacement already lined up if the Big G does go.

If you go, then best of luck, Big G. If you stay - I hope you make the best of it, give 100% and win the critics over.

i have not said much on here just been watching some of the strange things people are saying about this so called defender like for example that he aint to bad, he will be alright afyter christmas etc. I have seriously seen enough now and when transfer window was open id have been ok to sell him for the £300,000 swansea were gonna pay for counago (which was a joke ) as he can play football unlike our CD mcauley ive seen him last year and this and he has very rarely impressed me so i put alot of his good games down to luck not judgement.
Bruce and pim could be the way forward i think but now its 8 games in pim may need time to settle but if we can get a (dan shittu)type in id be quite happy with that too, should have got kisnorbo instead of him lol.
we have lost some bloody good players and to that i dont know what keaneo is doing really but get in the right loanees and who knows.
Welbeck at man utd , onuoha at man city i dunno why is it that all we do is tell the world who were looking at and then lose em would be good to get shittu and wood i think then we should have height and weight in back 4.
my 11 for doncaser which we WILL win

GK R.WRIGHT
LB D DELANEY "showed a little promise tuesday"
CB A BRUCE "best we have"
CB P BALKENSTEIN
RB L ROSENIER
LM L MARTIN "gonna be class"
CM J COLBACK "superb i love this guy he never stops"
CM G LEADBITTER
RM C EDWARDS
ST J WALTERS fick ons from priskin goals will come
ST T PRISKIN "14 goals last season"
"give these guys a run out not like we aint paid good money for these guys lets see what they can do and then we have cover in all areas no more swapping 3 midfielders for 3 midfielders and leaving knackered stead on his own that was a joke tuesday night but come on keane donny away surely 3 points COYB
