Cult footballers 20:58 - Oct 27 with 2248 viewsITFC_nostalgia

How would you define a cult footballer? What “ingredients” spring to mind?
Some sort of affinity with the fans? (eg Bonne)
Represent the club well? (eg Bontcho at USA 94)
Seem a good bloke? (Matt Holland?)
Doing one over on the lot up the road? (Danny Haynes)

What have I missed?

And who are Town’s most cultish players?

Someone who you think you could or wish you were like. An overachiever.

Yes, absolutely, I'll second that. For me, the overhead kick against Blackburn gave him the wow moment that a cult figure really needs. (Be it a great goal, a goalline clearance, a silly celebration, a funny interview or whatever).

Entertainer, under rated in the football world, on their day world class others average, ability to wind up opposing players and fans but adored by his own, scored in the local derby…

Step forward Mauricio Taricco.

Yep, Taricco just gets the nod from me too. The one that comes close is Shefki Kuqi.

Looked like he’d been hod carrying all day, had a pie, a pint, a fag and a fight then charged round the pitch like a bull in a bad mood.

A scorer of many a cracking goal, creator of mayhem and the most extraordinary goal celebration I’ve ever seen. He was great.

I can only think of one proper cult player. He kung foo kicked a racist POS at Palace.
