Juicy rumour or utter BS? 17:39 - Dec 29 with 4460 viewsWarkTheWarkITFC

Just heard that Downes and Woolfenden are both subject to bids that have been ongoing for the last week or so and that this has caused some major issues in the camp.

Surely this is nonsense? Evans must know there would be an absolute riot if we cashed in on both. Two of our own and our best two players this season?

Was told Lambert was informed last weekend and it’s all kicked off since there internally. Probably just made up but someone in the know can easily quash it or confirm there’s something in it.

Poll: How many points from 18 would Lambert need to have to actually be sacked?

One thing we know is that when there is the smell of some money, Evans will usually (Dids aside) cash in. Evans will be keen to recoup some more money and give the manager a fiver to find replacements.

We are in the 3rd Division. All of our players are for sale all of the time.

Our only chance of keeping everyone is/was to be charging to promotion so that our better players know they will be in the Championship next year one way or another and stick with.

Surely even Evans would have learned to reject bids and sell in the summer if we don’t go up. They won’t be worth less then.

You try and get promotion this term. That means keeping our best players. If we don’t go up we will lose more money in the next year than we’d have made from the sales!

Would be absolutely madness if either was off unless it was for absolutely mental money.

Judge aside as well - didn’t a bid come in from QPR?

Good point, but he has cashed in on many players in the past!

Definitely believable. This bad run has come at a terrible time for us with the January window opening. The likes of Downes, Woolfy and Garbutt will be attracting attention from other clubs and with our promotion looking decidedly more uncertain they may be more willing to consider a move.

Town have always been a selling club so nothing would surprise me.

Based on what? We haven't won for 7 league games. This was allegedly last week...

No chance Downes will be playing for us next season no matter what league we are in. If he wants to progress his career he needs to leave for a top 6 championship club or PL team.

Yeah and it’s too bad nothing came of that bid given how sh*t he has looked ever since.

There were rumours about those two a while back. Are they really good enough to go up to the championship, not sure if honest. Downes is ok but a red card waiting to happen. Woolfenden has still got a lot to learn. But money talks and as there is no loyalty in football anymore if those two can get more then than they are on now we all know what will happen!

Surely it would make sense to keep them until the end of the season. If we go up then no problem, stay in League One and cash in although not sure championship clubs are going to pay the sort of money we would be looking for.

As for Garbutt, that is down to Everton surely. If they receive a decent bid then who knows!

Sorry but there is no way Downes is anywhere near good enough for the PL. Mid table championship side maybe but he would never make it in the top flight.

Given his record I don’t think Evans has learned much at all here if I’m honest!

More important, he is nowhere near bad enough to be playing for a tinpot club like ITFC sliding down the leagues. If they have an sense at all, Downey, Wolfenden and anyone else with ambition will be gone.

Woolfenden > Millwall

Garbutt > Hull

I'd say it was inevitable. If we fail to do anything this year, every year will be a rebuild.

The average player turnover the lower down the leagues you go is astonishing at some clubs.

I imagine other youngsters will follow them soon enough (El Mizouni, Dobra). If you don't play them then they have no reason or desire to stay.

With the right manager I can see another Webster in Woolfenden. Good defender who is comfortable on the ball.
