Leave all your vegetable packaging in the supermarket.

They have to pay for their trade waste collection, after all.

I have about 200. Sorry. I don't think it''s clever and i'll always take bags if I know i'm going but when i'm out and find myself in a shop, my inability to juggle the 15 items i've just bought means I might require a bag.

Yeah I agree. It's a lot easier if you have a car and keep a few in the boot i case you nip into a supermarket. Completely different if you are on foot/using public transport and find yourself in a shop when you hadn't planned to be there.

Yep.

Odd that the criticism is mainly at supermarkets rather than the people that keep buying (and no doubt disposing of) the bags.

Its fair enough if you're out and about on foot and don't carry a bag with you, but no real excuse otherwise. Like lots of other waste issues, personal responsibility has to play a part.

Do you know what? I have actually allowed myself to struggle many times in order to drum it in.

I'll have my car sitting there with a boot full of bags and still forget when I go into a store.

Well, not any more. I'll roll one up and stuff the thing into my pocket regardless now whether I have the car or not.

You can get very small compact little pouches with a strong bag inside. My mum has a co-op one. You can also get ones which go on keychains. Looks a bit sh1t but must save a lot of plastic.

Never occurred to me to be honest. I took my own bag to Tesco earlier if that helps.

At the greengrocers where I work less than 10% of the produce is in plastic and only a tiny percentage of customers take their goods away in a plastic bag. It's a significant reason why people choose to shop with us as opposed to the supermarkets.

Doing the big shop tomorrow morning - that's inspired me not to pick up a pre-packed bag of 6 apples

(Also, was so engrossed in seeing how the little chap didn't drop the pile he was carrying, I didn't notice that he's carrying 2 more with his feet on first viewing )
