Right, so Boris Johnson 13:40 - Oct 4 with 1951 viewsGuthrum

has just told a court in Scotland that he will comply with (and not try to circumvent) the law requiring him to ask for an extension on 19th October, having previously told the Commons that he will not do so and we are leaving on 31st October come what may. To whom is he lying?

Unless he is operating under the impression that his dealmaking will produce miraculous results before that date.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Haven't you heard? We've got Hungary to agree to veto the extension.

Apparently.

Less is more.

You do know that you can tell courts things via pre-written statements, right?

A better question would be to whom is he not lying.

A question to which I think we all know the answer unfortunately.

Papers submitted to court in his name and the name of his Government. Which is legally identical to telling the court in person.

The issue, is it not, is that he doesn't think he's lying to anyone.

The EU ignore a veto from Hungary before over Israel which did not go down too well.

I wouldn't count it out 100%.

'Colluding with foreign powers'.

This is a euphemism for his sexual shenanigans with that American 'businesswoman', I presume?

Yea, he has to do it this way, since the judges, like many people, have noticed that when his lips move, he is lying and if he is waving his arms around at the same time, it is a really big whopper of a lie.

Does Hungary really want to fight the rest of the EU over nothing more than doing a favour for Boris Johnson? What do they get out of doing this, what can he offer them (certainly not support in the EU, as we will have left)?

Budapest may want to use this as leverage to extract concessions, but it would seem extraordinary to stake all goodwill on such a thing.

From what I've heard as well (which admittedly is not much), the Brexit muddle is the main thing stopping the EU from turning it's attention more fully onto Orban's various "illiberal" projects at home.
