Do they work?

Loads available online, all looking the same but varying in price; tube thing with some cute thing (someone's pet no doubt) looking around bewildered.

They work if you want to capture a mouse and release it back.
They don't work if you want to eradicate mice from your house.
The little blighter will run off breed and come back with his mates.

Quite happy to give it to a neighbour I dislike.

They work, but just make sure you check it regularly or your bewildered little fellow will die a long slow death of starvation which is probably less humane then being thumped.

It's actually my elderly mum who has the mice living close by.

The thing will probably get treated like a king if she catches it.

I once tried laying in wait holding a piece of string attached to a bucket.

I was convinced I'd caught one.

Of course I hadn't.

The end.

Not sure they come under "humane" but cats are fairly effective.

I'd then need a bigger trap to catch the cat.

They work, but they're only humane if you remember to check them. My mother forgot about hers until she saw it weeks later with a decomposing mouse corpse in it. That doesn't strike me as a humane death.

Honestly she'll probably be checking it several times per day.

As soons as she remembers who she is and what day it is.

It'll be fine.

Edit: that wasn't the family pet on the wall there was it?
Like, you left it with mum to look after while you went on holiday?

we had a pest chap in as we had loads of the critters. He said you basically have to make the place mouse proof; fill gaps, plug holes with wire wool - he reckoned they could get through a gap the circumference of a biro. As someone said if you use a humane trap you have to dump them miles away or they'll be back

They're more of an outdoor issue atm but just want to relocate a few, that's all really.

It - she seems to think it's just the one and I'm ok with going along with that for now - is just spotted hangin about a lot near the back door.

Shady looking thing, leaning up against the wall, casing the joint.

I’ve used these multiple times and they work very well. You do need to release them a long way away though or they’ll find their way back. https://www.amazon.com/Victor-Multiple-Catch-Humane-M333/dp/B004CMNWES

Haha it is not, although my father in law once looked after my wife's hamster for a weekend. It died after one night and he composted it before we got back.

Starting to think there might be some low level psychopaths in the family now though....
