Desert Island Potatoes 14:24 - Nov 21 with 2171 viewsChurchman

The potato - ‘it’s like the other vegetables aren’t trying’.

This food of the gods can be served on literally dozens of different forms. My five personal favourites are:

Crisps - plain, smoky bacon, beef and onion, cheese and onion, salt & vinegar. What a joy the humble crisp is.
Chip shop chips - standard size, bit of salt and vinegar and you are good to go
Roast potatoes - done well, the highlight of any roast dinner, after the haunch of topside, of course
Hasselback potatoes - roasties with more crunchy surface area. Mmmm
Potato skins loaded with cheese and bacon. The best I’ve found are in America made with Idaho skins. Snacktastic!

I'm still not sure how a method of cooking potatoes got to be named after the former Chelsea, Leeds and Cardiff footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselback.

Love all of those on your list, would also give a shout out to the French fry, there's certainly a time & place for them. With a nice mayo or blue cheese dip.

A good French fry is a thing of beauty. As is the crinkle cut chip.

The rosti is nice too and then there’s the Indian meal versions Aloo Gobi and Bombay Aloo. Yes please!

Talking of that, chips with curry, chips with chilli, chips with a puddle gravy for dip page all good. Mayo with chips: find a mirror and have a word with yourself. Bad, very bad!

Plus chips, boiled spuds, crinkle cut chips and crisps.

Enduringly lovable, intelligent and thunderingly exquisite.

Has anyone ever heard of the "John Motson" or "Motty"?

I'm not a fan of the majestic King Edward or Jersey Royal, I much prefer your more common-tater
