Would Burley do any worse? on 11:26 - Feb 3 with 2553 views | Marshalls_Mullet | I dont think it will happen, but I do think he would be able to do a decent job. To be fair, the style that GB played 20 years ago is what is now en vogue today.

Nobody would do any worse.... on 11:34 - Feb 3 with 2492 views | Bloots | ....but we need someone who would do much, much better. Burley doesn't need to be tangled up with this basket case of a football club. McCarthy will be available again next season.
| Enduringly lovable, intelligent and thunderingly exquisite. |

Lol, I'm not sure if you seriously believe MM would come back here, or that it would in any way be the right decision to bring him back

Some would say the same about Lambert. He hasn’t been good for a long time now.

Would Burley do any worse? on 11:37 - Feb 3 with 2486 views | footers | Why not get a young, up-and-coming manager and build a squad from the lower leagues?

....he'll get another underperforming Championship team to turn around or a 3rd Division club with genuine ambitions of promotion. But I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

Yes but it's still a false discussion if we are chucking Burley in there.

Would Burley do any worse? on 11:39 - Feb 3 with 2465 views | DinnernotTea | Not in the dugout no. But what I said before the washed up clown got here was Hogg/Nash with Burley upstairs for them to lean on. After all, Evans has this dream of 50% of playing squad will eventually be academy. No guys better to get the best out of Dobra/El Miz etc. And anyone dare to suggest Chambers then they should be banned from Portman Road. [Post edited 3 Feb 2020 11:42]

Yeah, there's that talented and upcoming young man just left Scunthorpe recently...

Would Burley do any worse? on 11:42 - Feb 3 with 2439 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I have been saying this for ages, but everyone says the game has moved on and he has been out the game for too long. Last time checked the aim is still the same, put the ball in the net.

Agreed. The fact we’re even discussing this is depressing in the extreme. What an utter mess this season has turned into. We’re 4th but it feels like 14th.

Would Burley do any worse? on 11:42 - Feb 3 with 2437 views | Kieran_Knows | I'd go Nathan Jones, personally. Terrible time at Stoke, true, but our squad is made up of players to play how he does (midfield diamond).

Funny you should that. We're actually 14th as of 1st November.

Would Burley do any worse? on 12:06 - Feb 3 with 2348 views | ElephantintheRoom | It's because of Burley that we are where we are. The only time Burley was anything other than clueless was when he had 'an experienced coach' i.e somebody called Houston or Hamilton doing his job for him - the turnarounds were instantaneous after both appointments. The role of Dale Roberts was also probably much more than he was credited with at the time - hence the catasrophic decline after his illness.

Part of being a good manager is appointing good assistants, which as you have said GB did. Nothing wrong with that. Similar to Cloughie and Fergie.

Im not saying I want him in. But I dont think the fact he gave up managing a while back proves that he couldnt do it.

The problem with this club is that the Manager needs to run / lead the whole club. While most clubs are taking responsibility away from the manager in order to allow him to concentrate on the team, we have so little infrastructure that the manager is required to do virtually everything.

Would Burley do any worse? on 12:17 - Feb 3 with 2287 views | Pedro | Burley is yesterday's man. The concept of Paul Hurst was good - a young manager with some record of success playing good football and with good lower league links was good but it was the wrong individual/team. Maybe John McGreal fits the bill BUT I think we are stuck with Lambert for now and need to give him full support this season. We are still capable of getting promotion and anything else will be a disaster.
| |
Would Burley do any worse? on 12:31 - Feb 3 with 2242 views | JammyDodgerrr | He hasn't managed in a long, long time. There is no evidence to suggest he would be a good manager today, literally zero evidence. Football is a different game and footballers are an entirely different breed to what he worked with.

Would Burley do any worse? on 12:41 - Feb 3 with 2215 views | Pecker | He wouldn't want it. We are stuck with what we have unfortunately. Nothing is going to change anytime soon unless Lambert does the decent thing and walks. ( which ain't going to happen )
