........for about 20 years which has recently decided to become infected. Spent 2 nights ago pushing some interesting matter, toothpaste like from said growth(should have made a YouTube video !) and now on a ward so they can cut it open and clean it out. Until 10 minutes ago it was going to be a general but mr handsome doctor reckons he can do it on ward with a local........I suppose this is good news BUT I am a woos with this stuff ! Furthermore the ward I am on is like a scene from Bedlam, non stop groaning from 2 beds down, several dementia cases, interdespersed by a screaming lady down the hall........so the back ground ambience to having my leg cut open will be interesting !

My wife has had both knees replaced, the first was done under a local, epidural. The disconcerting part she said was the noise and brutal nature of the op. They played music through earphones but she could still hear the hammer and saw!

An infected ulcer becomes a emergency procedure, rather than an elective one. Best to get it debrided, cleaned and a course bleach-strength antibiotics rather than risk the very serious consequences of systemic sepsis rather than a localised infection. [Post edited 8 Jan 2018 10:23]

It is now all cleaned out and 'packed' and I have to have 24hrs of antibiotic drip.
Was supposed to be properly back to work this week but been advised not to, for at least a week, due to cleanliness.......? A mixed blessing when self employed.

Worst similar situation for me was an abcess under thumbnail, which had to be removed. The ringblock local was excruciating, they didn't put a screen round! & when the nail came off it was like Vesuvius erupting - straight up ..!  |  |
