There'll be 3000 of us in an otherwise half empty stadium which will be frustrating to say the least. All the flag wavers are not usually bothered it seems.

Having just watched the highlights its looks like they'll gift us some goals too which would be nice.

I did wonder whether as the BBC says 'they need snookers', they may have a rethink on the ticket allocation and decide to cash in.

Unlikely as they will have sold tickets to home fans for all areas of the stadiums and it will be a nightmare trying to clear them out of any additional area(s) they might want to give us.

And the match is only five days away, so there is little time to do that.

Is there any reason why a team who have been so financially crippled recently decided to limit away fans when they play in a half empty ground?

Because they don't want to turn it into a home game for the visitors. Neither do they want the hassle of moving angry ST holders.

Plus not that many opponents can consistently sell out away ends like we do.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Can't blame them when they thought it could be a big game for them.

A half empty stadium would be perfect for us.

Truly impaired.

Get your question and it is difficult to comprehend why without knowing our history. Media reports often glamourize some and often omit other details.

1) We were financially stuck, no doubt, for at least 20 years. Two administrations and relegation to L2 hurt us. Last decade, a lot of that was partly down to our then abysmal owners. And partly due to the ongoing fan boycott due to said owners. But 18 months ago, we got a new owner. The club has been growing since then.

2) Regarding the reduced away seating, a trial was put in place for Preston in Feb, which sort of worked. The club wanted time to assess the success so it was reset for the next league game. But our next game was against Rotherham who brought 190 to sit in a 4K stand. It was agreed soon after to reduce away fans for the rest of the season and allow more Cov fans into standard seating (don't get me started on our premium areas) and getting 27K home fans in the two games preceding the Wembley trip seemed to justify that. Leeds last month was a league record attendance for us at over 31K.

3) And you say half empty ? CBS holds around 32K fans, was 4K away now reduced to 2.5K. Even with the disappointment of Wembley, last night we still had 23K there. And there wasn't a full Hull contingent. That's only 5K less home fans than we can get max with segregation spaces.

4) We sold 2 players last season for £35m total. Vik Gyokeres and Gus Hamer. When Gyokeres is sold this summer (more than likely), we'll get a sell-on bonus of 10%. So another £10m in the coffers.

Plus the funds we'll have got from the Wembley exposure (tickets, TV, sponsors etc) won't have been pennies. Think it was £500K prize money just for making the semi.

Finances, while tight, are not our major worries any more.

5) Our owner sees more progress in getting more home fans in than relying on away fans. Other clubs are doing the same. Blackburn are more often half empty and gave Wednesday 7K tickets for their game last week. Their manager and fans complained. And we have been given just under 2.5K for our game this Saturday.

Sorry, that looks more like a sermon than an informational post.

Only thing I will add is that like most fanbases, we do have a fickle band of fans. Come for the success, do something else when there isn't any.

We're out of the Playoffs (one chance left mathematically but highly improbable). So some of those fans will drift away for our last 2 home games. So don't be surprised to see a half empty CBS against yourselves. Not a verdict on Ipswich, just the less engaged fans doing their thing.

One of the better "new" stadiums for atmosphere in my experience, based on a couple of visits. Were acoustics considered in the design? Places like Reading and Southampton seem to suck the life out of it (the stadiums, not the places, although...)

Don't know. But from what I've read about the board at the time of the then-Ricoh being designed, unlikely. A plan was set up. Designs were drawn up. But during construction, we ran out of money so had to go to the local Council for support. All sorts of things were shelved. We had plans for a sliding pitch so events would be on the underlying concrete floor, not the grass. Didn't get past the artists drawings.

So whether acoustics were considered, I would say highly unlikely and would have been put on the "luxury element" shelf and binned.

Any atmosphere now is 50% fans and 50% the media team at the stadium. Our more vocal fans have congregated to the corner butting on to the stand that housed the away fans. That in itself boosted the atmosphere as home and away played off each other.

Now, the away fans have been shunted to the far side the same stand and away from the singers so the interaction has died but our loudest fans are still loud. And the corner they sit in is called Singers Corner. 1) because that's where most of the singing and chanting is and 2) we were originally known as Singers FC (started from a works sewing machine factory).

And praise to our media team. Our prematch anthem is We Live and Die In These Towns by The Enemy. Local band, bassist is a Cov fan (you may have heard it before the semi-final. We requested Wembley play it). Pretty sure the volume is increased for that play. And our fans respond.

Thanks for the nice review of the ground. We are quite proud that most fanbases (not all) have said similar. The atmosphere is there and the noise is loud.

We have been on a mostly positive up gradient. This is the first season for a while where we don't have anything to play for in the last few games.

Interesting take.

Won't bother challenging you as we've had so many fanbases try and make an Attendance Rivalry with us this season.

Pointless, unnecessary and no extra points from the EFL for good, bad or indifferent supports.

But I will agree with you about the media. We didn't ask for it but it was tedious. We had to cope with them (especially ITV) all over Maidstone in the 5th Round. Strangely more even against Wolves in the quarters.
