They must be one of the favourites for relegation. How nice it is to be smug and content with McK at the helm. So different from the last 20 years.

To be fair, we were always pretty safe under big Mick. He did a great job with no resources.

We lost 6-1 at League 1 Charlton in a pre season friendly under Mick when we were still in the Championship , so you can’t read too much into it.

Mate of mine who supports QPR said that If they avoid relegation this season it will be an achievement. Apparently they have had to sell players (Dickie and Dieng) for a fraction of what they were worth this time last season because of the collapse of the Championship transfer market and the fact that teams know they are in an FFP hole. There current squad is thin and there is little money to improve it

Ilias Chair anyone? Or maybe Willock? Wouldn't touch Dozzell with a bargepole.

That was after our worst full season under Mick as well; we finished 16th but only four points off the drop. Similar to QPR’s struggles last year. Albeit we knew Mick, for all his faults, could perform on a budget at this level - back then, at least - despite the rampant unpopularity by this point. In 2017/18, we were still in a battle for the play offs in March, and then Hull happened. [Post edited 30 Jul 2023 11:52]

2023 hasn't been a good year to support teams that have a hoop shirt style (specifically the ones in blue) [Post edited 30 Jul 2023 14:08]

No issue with Dozzell. He got an opportunity and he took it. Fair play, but now I doubt we would look twice if he was offered for free. Who knows though, an extended run in their side might be the making of him.

One of those was a Mickey Mouse league cup game at Luton. Anyway, we started the season well, despite the Charlton pre season battering. Talking of batterings, it all ended with the Fulham home game. They won 2-0 but the score was a travesty. They played us off the pitch and for me it was clear there and then how limited we were. As for QPR, they look in trouble. Often a team’s form at the back end of one season carries on into the next (e.g. ITFC 79/80 into 80/81). Their forum seems split on many things, not least whether club legend Ainsworth is the man for the job.

Looked it up and we won away 2-0. A win in a cup competition was a rare thing in those days!

The half-arsed hoops effort I've seen in yellow and green recently, albeit with thin, anaemic looking hoops and a random weird vertical line thrown in, might not be such a good idea for that sorry team then? Sorry Reading and QPR, it's a bit of an insult to compare your shirts with that. Apologies.

Hopefully we’ll have more to laugh about this season other than the colours they play in and their trophy dodging existence!
