October General Election? 10:47 - Jun 29 with 1828 views | Mookamoo | Sending asylum seekers to Rwanda is now ruled as illegal. Inflation struggling to come down. I think they'll try and catch Labour off-guard and call and earlier GE knowing they'll likely miss Rishi's 5 pledges. The Rwanda ruling will be appealed so they can campaign on the ideas it is all those others that are stopping them stopping the boats. Inflation will be at about 7.5% so they'll argue it will have been below 5% at the end of the year.

This. They know they’re done and Rishi etc. have no interest in trying to be re-elected, they’ll hold out for as long as they can to give as much opportunity to them and their mates to defraud the country as possible.
October General Election? on 11:09 - Jun 29 with 1725 views | tractordownsouth | I reckon it will be October 24. I can’t see a campaign lambasting people blocking them over Rwanda being effective. It worked with the Brexit message of “the other parties are stopping us, give us a majority to sort it out” but railing against the Supreme Court is too niche and voters know that it’s not something that can be changed by an election.

They’ll cling onto power for as long as possible and hope that their EU bashing, woke bashing and general hatred for most things will win over the stupid electorate. And you know what - there’s a good chance that it will. A hate filled country populated by ignorant arseholes governed by liars and traitorous scum. Hello Great Britain 2023.

plus they'll try and run down the economy/nhs further so that whoever follows them will be so bogged down in fixing their mess that they can return in triumph in 2029

October General Election? on 11:14 - Jun 29 with 1696 views | itfcjoe | No chance, they are 20 points behind in the polls and it's widening not narrowing - they'll simply hang on to power for as long as possible, and try to ensure Labour receive the mother of all hospital passes so that they can have another go in 5 years time You aren't going to win an election on stopping the boats and the trans debate, and the papers will start leaving them soon when they know the game is up

Doesn't it need to be a Thursday for some reason? I guess it would be October 26th if that is the case.

Agree. They are going to be annihilated in the election. Why would they bring that forward when there are so many more backhander deals to do for their donors? The Rwanda ruling will just be spun as 'woke judges' stopping the will of the people. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Some political strategists were saying yesterday, the Tories campaign is basically going to be "Labour will be worse" and Starmer can't keep a promise. They have no positives to point back on, especially now Brexit has proven to be exactly what they were warned of.
October General Election? on 11:39 - Jun 29 with 1593 views | mutters | Sorry no chance at all imo. They have till Jan 2025 to call one, they are so far behind on the polls that they will give themselves as much time to improve that as possible. October maybe, but 2024 not 2023 [Post edited 29 Jun 2023 11:40]

Early signs are that the Rwanda ruling will be used as an excuse to withdraw from ECHR.

The Tories as they are now only get their inspiration from the electorate. Brexit voters and Boris voters are all to blame.

Agree. They know they're done so an early GE isnt going to happen. They'll just hang on as long as possible to make sure they inflict maximum damage on the country. Utter b'stards. Each and every one of them.

I've noticed a growing trend that the right leaning papers have all started publishing articles that boil down "maybe we should actually throw millennials a bone?" Turns out constantly pandering to pensioners isn't a brilliant long term strategy for obvious reasons.

There was always a feeling that people get more conservative as they get older......but if they aren't (mainly) getting on the housing ladder then that isn't the case; and also even for people on the housing ladder when their kids are 25 and still living at home with no hope of getting on ladder then that problem is felt by them too

This is basically it, what have millennials got to conserve exactly? The right wing media called them lazy and entitled for years and now have realised they will actually need something to conserve if people are to vote for conservatives. There were quite a few polls showing that basically, my generation will just never vote Conservatives because for the past 20 odd years they've done their level best to make everything worse for us. I think the next fun battleground will be when people start re-evaluation Brexit and realise that just maybe it wasn't a brilliant idea in the first place. Already seen a few articles along those lines in The Times. [Post edited 29 Jun 2023 12:34]

Which would see the Tories down to 77 seats. And a measure of how much they are loathed and voters want them out will be seen in 3 weeks when 2 by elections are held. Both votes will undoubtedly record an anti Tort vote - be it Lab or Libdem. Unfortunately, Sunak comes across as someone similar to the bloater.
