What are we reading in March? 11:15 - Mar 1 with 1000 viewsRobTheMonk

I needed something easy reading so am working my way through Mark Greaney's The Grey Man (recently made into a Netflix film).

It's an action film in a book which is sometimes exactly what I need for the bus commute.

Still working my way through Stephen King's (as Richard Bachman) The Long Walk. Ironically, it's taking me a long time to plow through. Home has been hard work recently so struggled to find the time to read it. The book is great and I feel I need to give it the time it deserves.

Given your spelling of 'plow', I guess you read a lot of American authors.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

I'm currently reading Oliver Bullough's 'Butler to the World' which is both very good and thoroughly depressing reading:

A couple of other recent books which I would also recommend are:

Colin Thubron's 'Amur River', a really fascinating fusion of travel writing, history and the enduring distrust between China and Russia along the river that forms a large part of the border:

People Like us by Hashi Mohamed, just interesting for anyone with an interest in the part class, and race, plays in British society.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro for fiction - finding it quite an endearing story about a dystopian future so far.

1776 by David McCullough for non-fiction - because I watched Hamilton on Disney+ and wanted to know the facts, having enjoyed the fun.

I blame Homer Simpson and his Mr Plow alter-ego.

And yes, I do read a lot of American authors (and occasionally misspell words).

Sports Report by Pat Murphy. I’m at the age now where I read about 3 pages in bed and fall asleep. Then wake up a few hours later with the book on my face. Might take a while to get through this one.

Did a bit of tidying up, read the couple of Joe Abercrombie books that I'd never read which I enjoyed a lot and then have just finished

which I think I bought in a kindle sale at some point. Knew mothing about it but really enjoyed it, so much that I've now started 'Nevernight' by the same author. Not grabbed me so much yet, but Empire took until about a quarter of the way through as well.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I read the equivalent book for Cambs a while ago and whilst they're pretty dry, the lists of young men who didn't come back is a instant reminder of what stood between us and fascism.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

They're ok. I prefer his Stormlight Archive series though - the first in that series, The Way of Kings, is excellent.

In terms of fantasy stuff, another good romp is the Demon Cycle Series by Peter Brett. They stand above much of the stuff that's out there imo (there's so much average rubbish now that people are self publishing).

Could give my new book a try. It's available on Amazon Kindle for pre-order. The publication date is 29 March. It's a technothriller based in North Yorkshire and Norfolk. And there are a couple of oblique ITFC references.
