I'm not even angry, just a feeling of defeat. I have no hope we'll get out of this league, we'll be lucky to get the play-offs.

I know why it's the case (history, mainly), but Town fan morale is so alarmingly fragile that is magnifies any setback into a disaster and sees doom in every twist of the road.

I’ve been very positive that we’d turn things around, but that felt a little bit lance chance saloon. I’m a glass half full person…that gap looks a little too much to bridge now, and evidently we’ve gone backwards in some aspects.

Because it's happened after every draw this season (not to mention defeats), despite it being the first for a while where we're challenging for automatic promotion and actually playing well a lot of the time. It's not fragile this one game, but the whole season to date.

We're a club that clapped a relegation, I think town fans are incredibly patient but we are in awful form and it's perfectly acceptable to say that it isn't good enough right now.

Think that's confusing normal football emotion to overtime rightful concerns.

When ever do fans not bemoan a non win. That's just normal. That's just football emotion.

We were challenging for automatic promotion. It would take a change of form for us to do so again.

Not suggesting all is well. It's the "See, I was right, we are doomed to fail!" posts which I don't enjoy reading. Town fans apparently revelling in their gloomy views being proven correct.

Town fans were incredibly patient, but I think that has been worn down to virtually nothing by the slow decline and four seasons in League One. All the joy has been sucked out by constant disappointment. Recently, we have been shown nice things but there is the fear they will be snatched away.

It's not a fear. It's evidence that it is happening. Three wins in eleven. We've not even managed play off form over a sustained run of games.

The fanbase currently veers from elation at wins and signings, to the pits of despair at draws and losses. That's not rational debate about where the problems lie and what to do about it (hire a specialist shooting coach?).

I'm not even saying people shouldn't rage at defeat, just it depresses me to read our own people tearing into the team and management. Which is why I agree with the OP in wishing to avoid that.

If the truth is that Ipswich Town are perpetually doomed and fans can only extract masochistic enjoyment from failure, then what the feck is the point of supporting the club?

The only evil which Pandora managed not to release from her box was the despair, because humans cannot live without hope.

You're on here after every game though doing the opposite, seemingly incapable of offering any direct criticism.

3 wins in 11 games and the most critical you've been is saying we need to hire a shooting coach.

There's a happy ground between the perpetual doom mongers you speak of and the incessant blue tinted brigade who seem desperate to criticise those of us who aren't happy with how things are going.

I see no issue with discussing the merits of our current form.

My issue lies with those that are so negative, as if the season is over. Or are coming at it as if we are about to be relegated.

Football is fine margins and our current form is marginally the wrong side of the line.

The wheels haven't come off, we are not suddenly being stuffed by teams.

In fact, in the space of a week. We've beaten a championship team in a Cup we haven't played well in for God knows how long....with a reserve XI and drawn against the league leaders.

How I see it is that most posters are objective and can see that whilst current form isn't great...its not needing a major overhaul. As I say fine margins.

However, some posters appear to not want to accept this and seem only to see any and all negatives even if they are not there.

For some the season appears over. Which it most certainly isn't.

Mainly because I feel the need to be a counterweight to the flood of doom-mongers.

Besides which, I always aim to debate rather than personally having a go. Suggesting fan morale is fragile isn't a criticism, it's a statement of fact after the last decade and a half of (mostly) disappointment. It's as much something which needs to be worked through as our players' current inability to convert chances into goals.
