That's a long drawn-out contest all but guaranteed, then, given that Brady has already said that it'll go to the members unless the parliamentary party will unite around a single candidate.

The only crumb of comfort that I'd take from that particular scenario is that he'd be far more damaging/toxic to the party than a vaguely-competent operator such as Sunak or Mordaunt.

Crispin Blunt was on R4 this morning saying that the next two years before the next GE will be the perfect amount of time for the Tories to attempt to repair the brand, and I'd worry that someone such as Sunak could probably make a pretty good fist of it.

That anyone thought it a good idea to replace him with Truss makes you realise anything can happen.

Although I am beginning to suspect those who voted for her are BJ supporters who knew what would happen.

Maybe they're hoping for people to count on the BCWYWF trope or some other such nonsense to somehow make him look more attractive.

No one would fall for that though would they...

Would they?

He's under investigation by the privileges committee so would be a bad move from the Tories as Partygate is going to get dragged out again.

Also quite a few had letters in about him so would be interesting to hear them explain that whilst electing him again.

Bad moves seem to be their thing, so I'd far from rule it out.

What a mess. The only good news is that while they're all distracted trying again to save their Party, hopefully they'll leave the rest of us alone.

Johnson wasn't directly replaced by Truss. Johnson could no longer form a government because he'd lost the confidence of nearly all available ministers so he was forced to resign.
Then, a combination of the Tory MPs & members produced the lamentable Truss.
Yes, anything can happen as it's hard to see even the Tory MPs uniting around one candidate, let alone the members.

I can't see it. Far too divisive, if they're going to make any sort of a fist at the next election they need to put Sunak in and get to work.

I doubt #LiarJohnson would get the nomination, given that 60 Tory MPs (incl cabinet members) in effect gave him the boot.
