Just arrived in Morecombe and... 16:37 - Oct 7 with 2911 viewsHogger

Am genuinely shocked at how run down it is. Very sad to see. Thankfully we have a nice room with a view over bay for weekend but any tips for pubs or food very much appreciated

I live in Lancaster next door to Morecambe. The Crown does decent food on the prom, King's Arms pub , Indian down side street on prom. Can't remember name is excellent. If you want to drive out The Royal in Hest Bank or go to Heysham. Some excellent walks around there.

I actually didn’t think it was that bad when I went last season. I was expecting worse, and certainly a step up from Fleetwood (which I know isn’t saying much).

No Waitrose? That alone is deserving of the chant ‘I want to go home, I want to go home, Morecombe’s a s**thole I want to go home’. May upset a couple on here but who cares.

This is what surprises me when people say ipswich is a 💩hole. They can’t have left Ipswich often, as there are far worse places. But I suppose it’s not a competition and Ipswich, as with many places, isn’t thriving. And especially the town centres. It’s a sign of the times in the UK, sadly.

Yes, I was in Windsor the other day.
That's Windsor where the castle is, and the town centre looked distinctly run down.
Used to be a smart looking high street - not any more.

Same, dropped a tour group off near the castle and then went and parked up. The area round the back of the station is extremely shabby, but not visible from a speeding Range Rover I guess.

Yes there are far worse places, but that's not saying much. I don't think anyone with local roots deliberately puts a downer on Ipswich but the town centre itself really isn't a great place and struggling big time and of course it gets compared to places more local, i.e Norwich, Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds.
Thankfully the parks and Marina give the Town a bit of a plus.

Yeah, it was nice when I lived there, but that was 26 years ago!

Wasn’t sure if there were any ITFC fans up here near Lancaster.. am just about 10 miles from the City and agree with Pippin’s recommendations.. The countryside around and about is glorious

Indeed. Before the bloody Tories got in Morecambe was known as the Saint Tropez of the north.

Lol I don't think as many since the Burley years in Premiership. Loads wearing shirts in first season campaign in North West. Eden Project will propel Morecambe when it's built on the front. Personally think best views across Bay but don't turn around.
