Seems a reasonable enough guy and going by his version it does seem a bit mad he was arrested like that, let alone be handcuffed.
This Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Act seems a bit vague doesn't it and is clearly open to abuse.
I'm not sure why the piece is headed with a photo of Charles and not him. I suppose he doesn't want to publicise his face too much in case of any cranks.

Don't know where, but I do know when. 6.30pm on Thursday. The state broadcaster has become the voice piece of the Royal family (wasn't it ever) and it has shifted from remembering the passing of the Queen into full on propagandists for the Monarchists as they seek to ensure the assension of Charles with barely a whimper of dissent and or debate as to whether a Monarchy is appropriate in the current age.

Seen this a few times on social media but it’s meaningless virtue signalling. He is your King as you are a British subject.
Your tax bill will be from His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. If you go to jail you will serve your sentence at His Majesty’s pleasure. In court you will be representative by a King’s Council. The money you spend will have His Majesty’s head on the note. As will the stamps on the letters you post. If you want to continue globe trotting on gas guzzling Jumbos then the first words in your passport will be “ His Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State requests”

Exactly this.
I don't know about the Oxford case, but I'm seeing others trying to claim they are being suppressed for expressing their opinion, when actually it is the public use of offensive language that got them in trouble. We could do with better reporting on this.
People can and should be able to express a reasonable opinion, including opposition to monarchy. At time of writing at least, a clear majority still support the institution, there's no need to undermine it with heavy-handed tactics. |  |

There's only two explanations I can see. (Unless I've missed one)
Either there's loads of anti-monarchy protests that are going unreported, or the police are cracking down on anyone who shows dissent / republican protest.

'Free speech should only mean doing what I want them to do' isn't really free speech at all is it. If we can't let people voice dissent, then we're no better of than a dictatorship.
Although the idea has some potential. We could arrest people who don't vociferously support their own football team. Any silences (silent resistance obviously), audible grumbles or boos, get them in front of a judge. Or just skip that stage and take them straight to a cultural correction unit. | |
