Hello campers! 19:13 - Jul 20 with 1551 viewsvilanovablue

I do literally mean that I need a three man tent, only for 2 but I'd like a little more space. Has anyone got any suggestions. As ever the web has too much choice.

My tip is to get 4 berth or even bigger! Loads of choice - don’t go with the cheapest. Go and have a look, touch and feel in Gooutdoors if you can.

I’ve got an Outwell earth 4. Very happy with it. Light, super easy to put up and quite spacious inside. Only niggle is that I can’t stand up in it so if I was buying again I’d go for the Earth 5

I don't know if they are still available, but we have a 4 person Quechua pop up tent that we use for festivals and it is perfect. Loads of room, large bellend (titter), piece of p1ss to put up, fairly simply to fold down.

It is quite bulky to carry (folds into a largish disc), but well worth it for the smugness of being set up before everyone else.

This is the one.

I’ve got a “yellowstone” TeePee.

No joke, it’s 2.6m tall. 3m across.
Very easy to set up, and cheap.

It’s been my festival tent for several years,
and even featured in an advert for Aussie Shampoo
(I wasn’t in the advert, thankfully)

The downside is, when I bought it, it was only available in Red
So it can get a touch hot, but they now do it in many better colours.

You can fit a double air bed either side of the centre pole, and still have room

Oxwich by Kampa.
Got one for about £200 8 years ago. 5 berth, great for 2 people, piece of piss to put up, large enough living space for table and a couple of chairs plus small fridge and storage.
Still getting good use out of it. 4000 hydrostatic head is very watertight, camped in some right heavy storms and the only water in the thing was where I’d drunkenly pissed in the corner.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Admit it, you were scared not pissed.

We got one of these… very easy to put up and pack away… we had it at the TWTD BBQ the last couple of times, and plenty of space for 3 of us.

Really depends what you want to do with it, whether weight is an issue and what experience of tents you have.

- Do you want to carry it (backpack)? If so, you get what you pay for in top end backpacking tents.

- Are you used to camping and relatively small technical tents, or do you want a family style with loads of room and a living area part? The main distinction here is do you want to sit in it on chairs (or even in larger tents stand up, but you’d need a 4/5 man for that) or are you happy only just having enough room to sit up on the floor?

- When will you use it; just the summer, or will it need to stand up to bad weather (winds especially). Summer only opens up anything; UK winter use needs a sturdier tent (3 season minimum)

If you want relatively compact/quick to pitch (10 mins tops), you could go for a geodesic design like this. They tend to be pretty resilient, but don’t have much storage space. https://www.charlies.co.uk/coleman-darwin-3-plus-tent.html?utm_source=google_sho

If that size is ok, but you need more storage space then a tunnel tent may work, like this https://www.vango.co.uk/gb/camping-equipment/1327-omega-350.html, or a cheaper version https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/vango-beta-350-xl-tent-G5FC3Y0008.html?colour= or this smaller one https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/vango-scafell-300-tent-D1414060.html?colour=98

If weight/size is no option and you need somewhere to use as a base for a week or more, you may think about going a bit bigger - loads of room to spread stuff out and escape any wet weather -
https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/outwell-earth-4-tent-G5FD3B0004.html?channable

Can’t go wrong with mid-brands like Vango, MSR, Coleman. Not sure on cheaper ones like Eurohike, but you’ll get what you pay for imo. I’ve got a Vango airbeam tunnel tent and an MSR lightweight backpacking tent and they’re both excellent.

PS. I see others have been posting links to larger family tents. Certainly an option; benefits include more space for stuff, chairs, tables, camp beds, inflatable sofas, etc. If you go large enough you can stand up in them, have a massive sleeping area and massive living area, and a porch. Downside - big pack size in the car, heavy, take longer to pitch/pack up, and less cosy (fine in summer, but don’t warm up when it’s a bit cooler). We’ve had an Outwell Nevada M for 10+ years and it’s been excellent.

I have a Berghaus Air 4, sold as a 4 person, perfect for 2, indulgent for one. As a total novice, I was able to put it up by myself in 90 mins, consulting the instructions at each step. 2 people would achieve it in 45 mins or less. Tall enough to stand in, and it folds up easily into a large holdall on wheels (supplied), making it a doddle to transport. And it has an integral floor so no creepy-crawlies or water ingress.

Depends what it's for, if for hiking trips, can recommend Alpkit:

I've got an Ordos 2, very light and packs away very small. If for festivals etc., no idea.
