Who is the scariest person you've ever met? 11:25 - Feb 13 with 12252 viewshampstead_blue

This week I met someone who has got two confirmed knife kills in the recent Afghan trouble. Proper hand to hand stuff, not the thing of film and fake SAS stuff (Chris Ryan), He did it after he'd had one of his calf muscles half shot off with an AK-47.

Thing is, when I met him I thought 'you are one properly hard bloke'.

Edit.
Just found out he was MI5 and his hobby is krav maga!
One bloke to be stood behind when it all goes pear shaped.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

I did get saddled with an options trader who now worked with an ex-colleague & friend of mine on a boozy night out. I'd met this guy a couple of times & wasn't particularly enamoured of him, but sometimes you get lumbered. He wanted to carry on drinking after the pubs shut so I reluctantly escorted him to a night club. He didn't like the first one, for no obvious good reason and looked as if he might start a fight so I moved him on to another one and he very quickly started a fight with a bouncer.
The tubes were done by then so I also felt obliged to let him kip on the sofa in my flat. I had to lend him a shirt the next day because he didn't fancy showing up to work wearing the blood spattered one. The day after, my shirt arrived, washed & ironed.
I didn't see him again, but a few weeks later found out he had had a disagreement with another options dealer, head-butted him and got fired.

Actually the more I think about it the more examples I am remembering from my time living in or near Glasgow. One particularly nice gentleman, on the day of an Orange Order march, refused to let me on a bus, telling me he would slit my throat if I moved, on the basis that I was 'a devil worshipping bastid'. He was holding some kind of metal object in his hand but it was obscured, could have been a knife could have been a spoon.

I didn't get on that bus. Neither the driver or the other passenger getting on could give less of a crap.

I ended up in the wrong end at the Rangers v Ipswich friendly (1982 I think). Very scary few minutes until they confirmed that I was a) Ipswich and b) Not a catholic. After that they couldn’t have been more friendly. I don’t remember much about the match or the walk back to the station as a few of them got me very, very drunk.
I once played up against big Sam Allardyce in a charity match. That is one lovely, scary guy. One of his legs was as big as me. He apologised to me after I nearly knocked myself out by running into him. As I said - lovely, scary guy.

I played a random game of pool against a local gypsy heavyweight boxer and lost on the black ball. He goes "That'll be £20 yeah...". I laughed and went "Nah mate" followed by an awkward silence. He then started chuckling and I breathed a sigh of relief.

There's a story of the local nutter and him having a scrap (ironically I knew the nutter quite well). The nutters jaw swiftly got broken.

My mate who teaches Jujitsu basically said that he wouldn't fancy his chances against him because he's such a unit.

As it is, I see him quite alot these days and have shared beers with him numerous times in the local pubs.

I once met Cass Pennant and some big Irish boxer guy in a pub (they came with friends). Mrs ullaa offered to buy them a drink, they wouldn't have a little lady do that, she insisted and then they really wouldn't have it. She gave way, but it was a nervous moment and would have been a fair fight, so a shame it came to nothing really.

Other than that, some Islington gangsters who used to drink with us luvvies in the family home local.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Is there evidence now that he was without-a-shadow-of-a-doubt guilty? I've not heard much about it since that documentary they did with his ex partner who insisted he was innocent.

I mean, it wouldn't be the first time the police wrongly convicted someone to put a community at ease because the profile could fit.

Yes , plenty of evidence from various documentaries shown on tv over the years.

The 3 Millwall fans that approached me (on my own), kicked me and hoped for a reaction, on the Portman Road car park after that dismal end of season game at the end of the 90s that doomed them to relegation and us to miss the playoffs.

My ability to not even flinch to a hard kick in the shins surprised even me. Needless to say I was bricking it big time!

Out on the lash in a small non-tourist town in Turkey

A waiter at the hotel wanted to improve his conversational English....loads of free booze with my meal and then a trip out on the town with him, several bars and then ended up in a nightclub

We were joined there by a couple of his mates...including a tall heavy looking dude in a full length Gestapo style long leather coat

A small town Turkish nightclub is not really like anything I had ever experienced, it mainly consisted of sitting at a table with all my male companions and drinking.... a nearby table of local lovelies sat at a nearby table, looking across at us, waving and giggling.

Apparently the correct protocol was not to talk to them, buy them a drink or engage with them in any normal way. The only way forward was to get a basket of fruit sent to their table.....so a basket of fruit was duly dispatched to them

Random bloke on the next table went ballistic....he had been eyeing them up for ages and had already donated some fruit and obviously felt that my small punnet containing 3 mandarins, a few grapes and a ropey looking apple was an insult to him and had completely undermined him.

He came over to me in a rage...veins on forehead bulging and pure evil in his eyes....who new that your 5-a-day could spark so much fury

Things were looking decidedly iffy until the tall leather coat man stood up and got between me and Mr Angry. A couple of seconds later Mr Angry's face turned ashen....his demeanour changed to humble and scared. He grabbed his coat and fled.

I asked Mr Waiter what had happened....He explained that Leather Coat was an off-duty cop and had pulled his gun on the troublemaker and threatened to kill him right there

" But surely he wouldn't do that? " I asked

Waiter shrugged.... "He killed two last year....why not?"

I bought leather coat man a beer....and fled

Not so much scary as funny.

A few years back I was staying with friends Bridport and was out drinking with them. It appeared that some local woman was a Kick Boxing 'champion, or something

The upshot being some idiot had challnged her to a fight, not real violence just him saying a woman couldn't get the better of him. I think the idea was she was just going to tap him to show what could be done.

Anyway as we watched they squared up and with a shriek of 'aaaaargh' he ran at her, grabbed by the leg and body and bundled over a low wall about five yards behind, whereby her boyfriend got a bit arsey; and a real fight almost broke out

His words of 'you aren't supposed to do that mate' will long stick in my mind.

Me ex father in law was a convicted armed bank robber. I was a bit concerned at times as he made it clear throughout the marriage he wasn't my biggest fan. Strangely since I'm no longer banging his daughter he often comments what a great bloke / husband I am and was. He currently hates her 2nd husband with a similar passion, funny old world.

I worked in a student pub in Leeds in the early 90s whilst at the Uni. Like most student pubs it had a handful of regulars who weren't students, but were 'mates' of the landlord.

Although the landlord was quite laid back, three or four of these regulars were proper Leeds nutters. One - who went by the name of 'Scum' - was covered head to toe, including face, neck etc. in tattoos (this being a time before half of Under-30s year olds were covered in tattoos). To the staff he was lovely but if any student in the pub got a bit boisterous he would go over and have a quiet word - and nine times out of ten the said boisterous student would quietly finish their drink and leave. The one out of ten who tried to start something would quickly wish they hadn't...

...then one day I got mugged on the way into the pub by a gang who were causing quite a bit of trouble locally. Was a bit bruised and battered when I got to the pub so all the locals looked after me, cleaned me up and then proceeded to buy me enough drinks to sink a small army. The moment I knew I was out of my depth was when Scum (who had disappeared for half an hour) beckoned me over to a quiet corner of the pub, gave me a small bag and said I would be welcome to borrow it for a couple of weeks. I open the bag and inside was a small handgun.

Not sure what came out of me the quickest...the polite refusal or the air escaping between my buttocks!!!

I was a bit disappointed there.

I thought Scum had popped out, caught up with them, given them a good hiding and in the bag were your belongings.

I was almost siding with him.

I came into confrontation with one or 2 (or 3) of Ipswich people who were known handfuls in the late 80s, but wouldn't mention them on here.

Just in case.

Think old school Nacton, the Bluecoat, The Selkirk...

I agree that would have been a bit more of a Hollywood ending (or Begbie from Trainspotting).

A quick anecdote.

I was at one of those tacky parties with my gf and her family at some community centre type set up.

There was a bar separate from the hall the 'do' was in and she and I escaped into there for a quiet drink.

In that room, and nothing to do with the shenanigans next door, were a group of lads; maybe 5/6 or so. They started to give me a hard time and one of them was making comments towards my gf.

Anyways... I sent her next door and stayed back alone. Her step dad was in the next room see, and he was one of the biggest blokes I'd known. I mean giant-like.

He's wandered in, made his feelings very clear, and this group went white almost simultaneously. They left sheepishly, all apologising as they went, in an orderly line out the door.

So I guess he was pretty scary.

Love it.

I'm assuming this was a few years ago. Sadly I suspect if our two stories were set in today's context then there would be a decent chance one of the people in the group/gang would be carrying a knife.

Oh yes, this was when I was 18 or so.

I was 'summoned' into the Bluecoat around that era to see the main man there and that was a concerning evening for me.

Funny what you get yourself into at that age.

I was 21 when I was mugged. A group of five blokes surrounded me in a dark park that I was taking a short cut through. Shouted at me to 'empty my pockets' - my response was 'f*** off' and I gave the one in my face a shove...then took quite a beating.

Stupid bravado really because all I had on me was a student ID and the old walkman. Didn't even have a fiver in my pocket.

Now (as a 45 year old) I think I would probably give them everything and curl up in a ball on the floor - although I probably wouldn't be taking a shortcut at night through an unlit park with no-one around.

After a series of armed robberies on expats, one of my employers arranged some security training with one of those firms that specialises in such.

The guy who came and spoke to us was an Israeli and I'd wager ex-mossad. He did, amongst other things, the local negotiations to settle kidnappers and secure release of those kidknapped.

He explained that legally, the only people who could carry weapons in Nigeria were the police, no foreigners were allowed guns. I asked why would we bother with an escort from his firm then, seeing as how they would be unarmed protecting us from violent armed robbers/kidnappers.

He just smiled and said 'we have our ways'.

People carried knives in the fifties, sixties and seventies too, that is why the law prohibiting flick knives was so strict (you could buy those in Belgium though and bring them in on the ferry if you were so inclined). But in those days carrying a penknife or sheath knife was not only common but acceptable too. Still miss my Leatherman that I forgot to put in the hold luggage and so got confiscated at Vancouver Airport three years ago, That thing had been used to fix a broken down minibus in the middle of Madagascar.
