Terrifying!
I really do believe that their spending and tax plans will cripple the country.
JM is in denial as to the effect on normal people.
He will raise taxes on earners >£80k, that's pretty much every GP and huge swathes of the country. Is £80k rich?

The other thing which JM has consistently brushed over is the effect on business to the unions taking back control.
He is going to be giving the unions the right to strike and so much power that business won't stand a chance.

These are two huge issues.

Q: If you vote Labour, does this concern you? Flying pickets, strikes, union closed shops, huge inflation.....
Price rises and lower wages to cover the costs of the massive rises in corporation tax.
Lower pension pots due to businesses not paying dividends and share plummeting.

This is very serious. 1970's politics won't work in 2019.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

you would think he would be lying low after his last post showed he didn't read his own link.
maybe he did read it but didn't understand it

You'd think that someone who claims to have worked in military intelligence would be a) intelligent, b) be able to analyse and evaluate evidence and sources and c) not be so bloody scared of everything vaguely leftish. Particularly given that he's actively coming out in support of a government who's policies have made thinsg immeasurably worse for both former and serving military personnel.

Did you miss the fact that I ran a Social Enterprise and encouraged lots of firms in my sector to change, they did btw.

With our new venture we are also building homes for local families and veterans. These will be super insulated and cheap to run. We're investing way over what is required by building regs to ensure a low carbon footprint. The units will also be gas free.

And we both work for charities.

Anything else?

So, why are you so sh1t scared of a political party that's proposing on doing more of this sort of thing as actual policy?

Exactly.

There's an odd fear in some people of government taking rather than giving. Obviously that depends entirely on the government and who they think they're representing.

Anyone earning £80,000 plus can afford to pay more tax.... nothing much wrong with that basic premise in a country of such appalling inequality with devestated public services, crumbling infrastructure, crippled education, no joined up thinking for care in the community etc etc....

People seem to think that a country can be run without taxation - and one of the big problems this country faces is greedy, self-interested people thinking of themselves when the country is on the brink of collapse - and disintegration IF Brexit proceeds along its merry path.

Incidentally I think you will find JC and his cabal of socialist loons are more interested in pinning down wealthy offshore tax avoiders like our illustrious owner and tax-avoiding companies most of all before scraping the barrel with a small increase on top rate tax

Look, if you're paid lots of money as senior military figure to facilitate the killing of brown people for oil then it's bad form to pay an extra penny or two in the pound to pay for the healthcare of the ground-floor grunts who's health was irreparably damaged by said actions.

If people knew that many capitalists are planning for a time when huge swathes of jobs become redundant due to technological advances, they'd probably vote Labour too.

Hilarious
So you vote for a luddite economy and are a technology denier!

Thanks.

Hello, I'd missed you're barbed comments.

My income is below £80k, as is my wife's and both my eldest children. We do not need a new conservatory thanks. Did you want to sell me one?

Yes, it is correct to state that huge swathes of the country earn more than £80k. GP's, surgeons, property developers, senior cops/fire service/ambulance, senior army, navy, air force officers.......I could go on.

You're use of the phrase 'I'm all right jack' is never welcome. For veterans it's a proper insult.

I’ve no doubt you’re a thoroughly decent guy but I don’t think you really have a grasp of what things are like in really deprived areas for the most vulnerable in our societies.

To them, 80k is beyond their wildest dreams.

The list of people you mention there does not constitute anything like ‘huge swathes of the country’ either, quite the opposite, all you’ve done is highlight that it’s only the really successful who earn that amount.

Your own link in this thread says the increase on those earning £80k will only affect 3% of people. 3% is not 'huge swathes' of people, it's a small minority. You deal in fantasy and propaganda.

Harsh, I saw the Flying Pickets in a room above a pub in Cricklewood a few months before they had their number one, very decent set - especially their first big toke of the joint take on 'Summertime'. In fact, if eric's absence continues and we win today I might just start an acapella thread when I get in tonight. Get thinking TWTD.

You seem to miss the point that the vast majority of companies aren’t and won’t be like yours unless they are forced to give more.

Your work sounds admirable and something I’d be interested in from a position of running a construction company, but it’s really not the normal and won’t be

As discussed 80k is the top 5% of earners and they should be paying high rates of tax imho

As for unions, big business has way too much power, and under Boris he will be looking to shaft the average workers rights as hard as he can. People don’t generally strike for fun, it’s to protect their rights from people who would cut them to increase their dividends for shareholders

All seems very sensible to those who think their should be a bit more equality in this country, corporation tax is way too low, cut and offset by cuts ti nhs, education all public services, benefits and societies most vulnerable. Nice.

I'm a Labour supporter, I've seen it, and personally I'm delighted...

You neglected to mention the section about Labour's reforms to Capital Gains Tax - as you've quoted them yourself, a bit more information from the IFS for you:

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/nov/05/thousands-of-uks-richest-people

According to the HMRC report linked in this article, 9,000 people made a combined total income of £33.7 billion from Capital Gains in the last financial year, on which they paid £5.1 billion in Capital Gains Tax. To put that into perspective, that's an average of over £400,000 per person who are only paying tax at a rate of 14.8%.

Even if taxed at just the current rate of income tax for higher earners (not Labour's proposed increased rate), that works out at roughly £12 billion pounds in tax that these people are managing to avoid.

How do you feel about that?
