If that had looked like becoming an influential political party I think the majority would have welcomed government action to disband it (it did, thankfully, disband itself). The balance between democracy and the 'tyranny of the majority' can become very difficult to judge, modern day Venezuela could be seen as an example where a narrow election victory has resulted in a de facto dictatorship to the detriment of almost every Venezuelan (not that I think Trump's solution is the correct course).
