Brett McGavin... wow 15:17 - Mar 4 with 8109 viewsMrTown

What a footballer, just back from the u23’s. Comfortbale 2-0 win, but Brett McGavin is a special footballer, plays as the pivot at the bottom of the midfield, the Skuse role, he is a special bread of footballer, his passing ability is fantastic, his composure, plays the game at his own speed, never looks like he needs to get out of 1st gear.

Special footballer on the books.

He's very good, very much in the Carrick mould.

May lack a yard of pace to go as far as his ability would otherwise enable.

As a special bread of footballer, where do you see his best roll?

Will hopefully see him getting some opportunities during pre season as he's 19 so not one of the youngsters any more really.

A big couple of years for him to make a break through

It was only a few months ago he was looking quite likely to be released, in fact I heard he had been and was to look at other clubs (Whether that is actually the case I don't know).

He seems one that has benefitted in the change of management from Hurst to Lambert and the tweaks made to how the lower teams are trying to play - earlier in the season he was in a 4141 and expected to drop back in between the CBs and his mobility was causing him issues - since the change he now is playing across the full width of the pitch and getting on the ball more and ticking it over.

Good to hear, another centre midfielder though. We seem to have an abundance of these coming through, could do with a sh!t hot striker or centre half.

Burnley reporters seemed very impressed with "big calm Ipswich centre half", thought it would be Ndaba but said it was Cotter.

Yes I speak to Steve quite regularly, apparently Hurst didn't fancy him and his dad was trying to get him in at colchester, then Lambert wasn't too keen either but offered him a year which he took up recently, great to see him proving himself.

Seems to have taken a step back. Emmanuel obviously getting more game time than him at the moment, as I’d imagine he’s seen as closer to the first team.

Good player no doubt about that.

Was linked with Arsenal in the summer, don’t know whether that was agent blowing smoke up his a**e though.

Lambert touted towards players having wrong agents, maybe getting slightly too big for their boots when talking about Crowe last week.

Think he’ll progress next year with more game time at u23 level when Emmanuel steps up.

He's doing well at the moment. With young careers things can quickly go sour dough.

He'll thrive being sandwiched between defence and midfield.

And again I ask, how is it that we are so far off the pace at first team and top of the league with the U23s? Surely there must be a player or two who could have made some difference? Is it more a sign of us having a big squad of very similar ability? Too many not good enough.

Good to hear of players doing well though.
