Preston game 22:24 - Nov 6 with 4111 viewsVemundBreakfastSkard

The Preston game got me thinking, does anyone on here know if we've been in a situation where we've had to put an outfielder in goal? It hasn't happened in my lifetime as far as I'm aware.

Neil Gregory went in goal (late 90's I think)

Remember Russell Osman went in goal once. Used to be common place when only 1 sub

Think Matt Holland went in goal for ten minutes or so whilst Richard Wright had to go off and get stiches. Think it was against Oxford....5-2?

If I recall correctly we were the first team to take advantage of having a subsitute keeper to replace a sent off keeper.

I believe it was Craig Forrest sent off against Sheffiled United but I cannot recall which keeper came on as the sub or who was the outfield player who made way.

There was a bit of a song and dance about it in the media at the time.

Edit: Assuming I have the right game Clive Baker came on to replace Eddie Youds.

It was early 1998, just before or just after we beat Norwich 5-0. It was one of three consecutive home games in which we scored five.

Kevin Francis outjumped Holland to score for Oxford without actually needing to jump.

Yep, right on all counts I think.

I recall him challenging Kevin Francis (and losing) from and Oxford corner which they scored from.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Against Charlton in 1995 after Forrest injured his back. We lost 5-1.

I think there was another time he did it too.

About a year later in a home defeat against Huddersfield. I think Marcus Stewart put one past him.

I think he droooed a high ball very late in that game for a Brighton equaliser. He really wasn’t very good in goal and he wasn’t a great left back either. Much poorer than Knudsen!

He wasn’t a good left back as he was really a left sided midfield player. But granted not top quality like a lot of other Duncan additions, and played out of position.

Thinking about it there are similarities between Duncan and Hurst in terms of downgrading the quality of the playing staff, albeit from a higher start point.

Remember that one, think Neil had to go in goal for the stiffs a week or two before and kept a clean sheet, but then happens v Charlton and they battered us.
