Promotion Merchandise
at 10:42 9 May 2024

Yeah it all looks rushed, maybe it was, I know the playing staff were taking it just one game at a time and not thinking about promotion before it was secured, you would like to think the merchandising department may have been able to consider the prospect of it without it effecting their performance though.

It's games like this that make me feel confident we will be more than fine next year with just a few quality additions to the team; any team that is having an off day, not up for it, or just has no structure (see this Man U team) will come undone against us.

Anyone else feeling a little bit deflated this morning?
at 09:09 23 Apr 2024

I agree, and honestly after the 12+ months we've had I just think knowing that we need to win 3 games will galvanise the team, it will remove any ambiguity. Also I know logically we want any team around us to drop points to give us margin for error and all that, but I like the idea of Leeds fans thinking they've done it by getting ahead of us, expecting us to slip up, just for us to go and put in two huge performances and get back ahead of them before the final day.

Oh and I still have a feeling Leicester are just as likely to finish behind us as Leeds.

Don’t think I’ve ever been so anxious…
at 10:39 22 Apr 2024

I think Wednesday's Hull v Coventry game is big as well, obviously Leeds dropping points would be massive, but if those two are out of the playoff picture by the time we face them I think that is a real boost, you would have to expect a drop off in intensity, and especially against us where the energy and desire to press is so important it could make the difference.

Just looked at the live league table
at 16:18 20 Apr 2024

I think that could really be key, yes the other three were playing under pressure in the premier league last year, but 1. They obviously didn't handle it that well as they all went down, and 2. It is a completely different pressure to have to win every game compared to any win being massive when you're scrapping at the bottom. We dealt with that for about 2 months at the end of last year and didn't buckle under that pressure, and I don't think we will this time. To me this break feels like a perfect time for the players to refresh, and for McKenna to plan for this last 3 game push over the line.

What do we want Coventry to do tomorrow?
at 12:13 20 Apr 2024

Yeah that was my thought, but then I think I'd want them to take points off Hull just to finish their playoff hopes ahead of our game next weekend, maybe beat Hull then exhausted by next weekend and drop points to Blackburn.

What do we want Coventry to do tomorrow?
at 12:05 20 Apr 2024

Obviously if I'm not thinking about how it would effect us I would love to see them make the final, but I was thinking what result is better for us with our game against them coming up?

I think making the FA cup final could mean they take their eye off the league games given the playoffs now look unlikely, and you would think players would want to avoid injury, but then I think it's also possible if they win tomorrow they could be riding on the crest of a wave through to the end of the season.

I realise we should just focus on our games etc etc, but with a week off the mind wanders, and if both Hull and Coventry have a bit of a drop off in intensity by the time we play them it could make a huge difference.

Leicester's remaining games now look tough
at 22:10 12 Apr 2024

Put in the context of just losing to Plymouth, their remaining games look pretty tough, West Brom and then Southampton at home with only 3 days between them, then away to Preston. Even Blackburn at home on the last day isn't easy, and I get the feeling this Leicester team don't respond well to pressure, and 3 at home doesn't seem like an advantage given how their fans have turned recently.

Obviously we just want to take it one game at a time and get as many points as we can, but you do get the feeling the last couple of weeks it may not quite be as many as we thought we might need a month ago.

Dewsbury Hall was already going down like a felled tree before any contact (n/t
at 21:59 12 Apr 2024

His diving makes him a significantly worse player. Some players do it well, buy free kicks in good positions when there's nothing on, but with him on many occasions he seems to sacrifice a promising position and instead prefer to try and go down for a penalty or free kick, he'd drive me mad if he played for us.

Club comments have made it worse
at 21:02 9 Apr 2024

I think the big issue is the fact they introduced the £40 membership this year with the new points system, regular away fans will have been planning their away trips to ensure that they meet the required threshold of points to ensure they get tickets to the Norwich game, so for the club to give away such a high percentage for such an in demand fixture seems to be a big error in my opinion, and the communication has been terrible.

I also think it is completely fair to question this now as it needs to be clear what will happen for big games that may come up before the end of the season. As clubs progress they value their fans less as they make up a smaller percentage of their income, it is important to keep those who decide these things honest while we still can, as our influence as a fan group will only decrease with promotion and progress on the field. Lastly, of course fans are capable of questioning the club in this instance while still supporting 100% when they go to the game tomorrow, I find it strange people have spoken as if this is not possible.

If McKenna did a Xabi Alonso
at 08:51 7 Apr 2024

And came out and said he would be here next season whatever happened in our last few games, would it change your outlook on our push for promotion?

I found myself thinking about this the other day when Alonso announced amid all the speculation that he would be staying at Leverkusen next year. I am desperate for us to get promoted this season, but I think a large part of that is because I think it guarantees that McKenna will be here next season. Obviously I want us to do as well as we can, and getting promoted and seeing us in the Premier League after all these years would be amazing, but I also think that it would be great to see McKenna continue to build this team next year with another season winning lots of games, pushing for promotion again. So yeah, if not for that looming threat of him being poached from us I think I would have a far more relaxed 'what will be will be' attitude towards this last month of the season.

We got lucky with Leeds today, however.......
at 18:45 6 Apr 2024

The next two are definitely key, build that momentum back up for tough couple of away games. I keep getting stuck on that final day fixture, up until the last few weeks I had been thinking we stood a real chance on the last day as long as we were within 1 or 2 points of Leeds, but I think now we need to be ahead all the way to the end. It is a real stroke of luck for Leeds that it is almost certain Southampton will be resting players for the playoffs, one of their toughest games of the season on paper but it will be made into a fairly comfortable win I would think. Some teams get all the luck.

Wagner won the tactical battle I am afraid
at 16:34 6 Apr 2024

I think it was the only time I can remember when McKenna did seem to miss a trick (and to be clear I am more than happy to forgive him of that given the amount of times he has altered games to win them for us). It seemed so obvious we just needed a threat to go in behind their CB's, they were quite comfortable with Moore, particularly with him having a bit of an off day, but were not very mobile so I think Al-Hamadi should have been on at half time and just ping a few over for him to chase, even if it hadn't come to anything they would have had to drop off a little to counter the threat, leaving more space for the 3 behind the striker to play in. We saw it was a threat once Al-Hamadi came on, just felt it was a little late.

Clarke is better than Tuanzebe
at 16:02 6 Apr 2024

We definitely improved when he came on, but I think to suggest Clarke is on the same level defensively does Tuanzebe a massive disservice. There were a couple of situations in the first half where they were working a good move down their left, but Tuanzebe's positioning and range led to him making key interceptions, also while it was ridiculously given as a foul, I think he's our only defender who could make the ground needed to tackle Sargent when he was through in the first half.

He's lost that shot recently, I don't know why, it used to be almost automatic, cut from Leif and finish by Chaplin as he arrived onto the ball, recently he just isn't striking them cleanly.

why's he let that go for a corner?

No idea, he had a couple of options in the box as well. Moore doesn't seem on it today, maybe time for a change

It's just a good tackle, not a dive I don't think but just contacted after the ball was won cleanly, really terrible decision.
