I’ve lived in Col for the last 30 years. Always been plenty of Town fans around, I’m sure we’d be the most popular club overall : albeit there’s the usual collection of West Ham, Arsenal, Man U, Tottenham etc too. Very little evidence that there’s actually a league Club here. Feel quite sorry for them really, they should be pulling in far more fans and at least be league one but seem to be going backwards if anything.
I love the Derby but still don’t want Norwich to go up this season as it would somewhat take the shine off what we’ve accomplished:I think a few years in our shadow will do nicely. I don’t wish you a big decline, you being mid table Championship mediocrity will be fine with me. Would like WBA to go up, decent club and less likely to be better than us next season as compared to Leeds or Southampton.
Sorry to read of your loss and let’s hope Town and our fans can give you and your family a special occasion tomorrow. 60 + years as a north stander is quite an achievement, I moved to The Churchmans in may late forties for a quieter experience. Get the sense your Dad was a Town legend, and what a cool name too.
All the best for a full and speedy recovery. This incident might just be a good omen….I broke my leg just before the play off final and didn’t want to risk further damage by attending on crutches. I often give credit to myself for inspiring the win by selflessly passing my ticket on : as I wasn’t exactly a lucky charm in many prior play off campaigns, right back to the first one against Charlton. As ‘luck’ would have it, I can’t go tomorrow or Saturday either. COYFB.
Thanks for sharing these, I always enjoy doing your quizzes. Point of order though (!) and perhaps it’s down to my age but I do not agree with the answer to CPFC biggest rivals.
There’s some very impressive football CV’s on here. I played for Harwich and Parkestone from under 9 through to under 13 level, and was considered quite good. However, by the end of my time there turns and tricks needed to be backed up with strength and bravery and I was found out. Badly. Absolute coward who avoided competing in the air if at all possible. Made a ‘comeback’ at 28 when my works team was short, and broke my leg. At that time I was the father of a 3 week old daughter and being practically immobile for the best part of two months didn’t exactly endear me to my wife. Oh, and I missed the play off final which was 2 days after my leg break. Couldn’t even have a beer at home as I was pumped with painkillers. FFS.
My nerves are on edge too. My coping mechanism is that regardless of the score on Saturday, we will still be the only one of the two teams to win the League, FA and UEFA Cups. And have produced England’s best two managers. At best, Norwich have a 10% chance of winning the FA cup at some point, it is almost inconceivable that they’ll even win the league or triumph in Europe.
Genuine question : Is it troubling that the majority of voters in Rochdale elected an MP largely on the basis of his anti Israel sentiment or is putting the plight of Palestinians ahead of more local concerns evidence of recognition that on the whole we are still a good place to live and that a concern for the much less fortunate is of more importance?
Given who the respondents were, I am genuinely surprised at how ‘low’ the numbers are. Of more concern is whether these views are shared by floating voters : if they are, and this type of prejudice can be a vote winner, talk of a Labour landslide might be premature.
I think he will be another Liam Trotter : not going to make many first team starts with us but probably have a good career as a top league 1 or middling Championship midfielder.
This would probably be my top 3 too, but in the spirit of wanting to add a new candidate into the mix, how about Marlon Harewood and that miss v Oxford.
All of the above, plus, in no particular order : Getting players autographs Tannoy announcements that someones wife/girlfriend had gone into labour Various chants/songs Green un Hearing other scores/results via someone’s radio Barrier 171 in Churchmans, where it all started for me
