| Forum Thread | The Labour / Remain paradox at 15:21 11 Dec 2018
I probably shouldn't be the one to mention this as I voted remain in 2016, then Labour in 2017 but a lot of Labour supporters completely lose me where they point to the polls as a means to make a case for a 2nd referendum yet dismiss them when it shows that despite this Tory government they trail behind/ At best are on par with them |

And while the result wasn't what we wanted, that was perhaps the best atmosphere I've ever witnessed in the North stand. I was an ST holder during the Royle era when we were topping the table and playing entertaining football but nothing from the fans then came close to that tonight. Those Blue Action guys have really made a difference it seems - the North stand was rocking tonight. Now back to London with a bad result on the field but the atmosphere made it worthwhile. Let's hope Lambert can keep us up |

In the unlikely event a populist became president of the commission next year? I read that Salvini is considering running to replace Juncker If Salvini became commission president would the likes of Clegg, Umunna, etc be so keen for us to stay in the EU? |

| Forum Thread | Scotland looking at bringing in universal basic income at 14:35 11 Feb 2018
A report here from the BBC on how the pilot is going in Finland http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-42988734 I think this is a good idea if there is enough job creation in the economy, and will create incentive for people to work, its also less socialist in practice than a benefits system as people currently in work receive the monthly payment, which is basically receiving some of your tax contribution back (highest rate is 31% for the highest salaries, which is surprisingly low for a Nordic country) Scotland has the same size as Finland and I think it could work better for them than their current benefits system - but they do need the jobs in there economy to justify the system in regard to getting people into work, presumably extra disposable income for people currently in work could contribute to an economic boost + job creation? whether it could work in England or not is another matter, the larger population south of the border may make it trickier.
